Re: a critique of critical criticism
Hi Nigel
Anyone can google the search phrase: "are canadian university students being indoctrinated by left wing professors" and have ample relevant links to newspaper articles and a variety of other sources (including the odd book) which answer the search phrase with a basic 'yes'. It seems there could easily be a battle of the sources launched, if one wishes (although I tried searching a little for possible right wing indoctrination links, only a few times did I come across references to attempts to battle perceived left wing indoctrination). I somehow doubt either of us wants to rush to a library based on a minor argument, in the hope of finding an obscure book, that might have an honest review of an author's political leanings, when there are abundant links available on the internet, the sheer weight of which may count for something. Including wikipedia, which is commonly believed to be left-leaning, as I said earlier, and that it actually supports me to some extent in a couple of entries anyway.
I'm still inclined to believe that in any left vs. right battle for the hearts and minds of students on Canadian campuses, the left is continuing to prevail on the whole. My original reason for taking my view (that heavy left wing indoctrination might be going on) was based on an admittedly conservative local radio station here in Ottawa occasionally alluding to the predominance of left wing professors and student unions across Canada, with special reference to Ottawa campuses. There was the radio hosts' talk of pro-life or pro-Isreal, or even mildly right wing, speakers not being allowed to speak by administrators on certain Canadian campuses. My internet searches later only reinforced this view, on the whole. The fact that so many students seemed to have their minds warped far left rather than warped right to any extent during their student days points to leftist indoctrination by somebody, whether by faculty, student unions or both.
