I suppose that chess could be a part of the much-needed youth support activities up there, but it needs far more than simply sending books.

I think that's very true Paul. It is something as president of the CFC that would be near and dear to my heart anyways. Developing an enduring relationship would be a no-brainier ... even along broader lines of a cultural dialog.

There's some amazing stuff to tap into that would lift up both communities at the same time.

    Hi Neil:

Nice selection - I'll also be forwarding to Michael a few of my unused chess library books.

Hope others are joining in.......I'm sure no donation is too small.

    Hi Mr. MacDonald,

Not sure if you are addressing myself or Neil (apologies if your message was meant for Neil). Anyhow, if you are asking me for the shipping address, please shoot me an email at mjysong@gmail.com. Thanks again to yourself and Neil for the support!

SoCA (Society of Chess Aficionados) will commit to your effort. I'll see just how many chess books we can gather up.

Probably a dozen or more, I'll know more by this Monday.

And we challenge the Chess'n Math Association and the Chess Federation of Canada to match the number of books that we donate!!!

Thanks for the encouragement Neil! The "we" would be myself along with a few other students at my high school involved in this initiative.

Just a question, what is your relationship the Eenchokay Birchstick School?
In 2007, after being renovated the school had burnt down. Following this, the community suffered great difficulties and had an enormously high suicide rate. Recently, the school has been rebuilt again, and we chose to donate to this school in order to facilitate this transition. Of course, if we receive more donations than expected, we are planning to donate to even more Aboriginal schools :)

Michael's effort should be put into the CFC New Feed, etc.. And if the Chess Federation of Canada wants to consider themselves as anything but Canadian lame ... they should seize this opportunity to do good work within the Aboriginal community!
