General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
I'm typically Pro-Trump on most issues, so I'm a bit confused why you are saying I am on an anti-Trump rant.
I have not disputed your arguments about job findings, in fact I believe Trump is increasing real, decent paying jobs. This would be in opposition to Obama, who was at the helm when there was a large influx of very poorly paying jobs which he used for the % employment statistics. There is proof of this from both the left and right medias.
I don't think I'm opposed to what you are saying Neil. I just believe that however this problem occurred, mercy should be given to the suffering.
Mavros
My bad Mav, I should of said 'the'.
The Donald shakes this up again today, eh? Here's the spin from the Clinton News Network:
By the metric of personal generosity whilst in office he is the greatest president of all time. By unemployment metric he is better than the previous two. By fewer people on food stamps better again! Perhaps wealth created in 401ks with record high stock markets? That's a lot of money for a lot of folks! Again, better! Deregulation since Reagan? As an example ... pipeline that benefits Canada too? Perhaps bringing back new billion dollar auto plants? Border security?
Want me to go on???
By what metric is he a terrible president? Oh I know, by the Bob G., Peter McKillop, Paul Bonham metric. Yeppers, you got me there! He might not ever be canonized.
This is too much fun!
Which US president has given 1 million dollars of his own money to help those in need???
Who?
Class dismissed.
Neil, this was your post 6 days ago in reply to my comment that Trump is a terrible President.
Do you still stand by your comments?
Personally speaking I think they should clear the decks. Allow every ILLEGAL to come forward and be allowed a path to citizenship.
And then from this point on ... ENFORCE the law.
Million & millions of well meaning folks who OBEY the law ...wait, wait some more, going through the LEGAL immigration process. America currently accepts 1 million LEGAL immigrants per year. More than any other country in the world by far:
So in the midst of your anti-Trump rants consider this; consider the integrity of those law abiding people as something to RESPECT! Respect above those who are ILLEGAL and FORCE themselves upon those who simply want to live by the rule of law. A rule of law that applies equally to everyone.
Something also worth considering Mav; if Trump continues to make America great again with increased American manufacturing jobs, service sector jobs, etc., etc., he will need to fill those jobs with qualified people. That would lead to an increase in LEGAL immigration far past the current 1 million per year?

Really? You sure fooled us. :)
Based upon your posts, you are at the very least a strong Trump supporter, even hero worshipper.
If that isn't true, you really should review and edit your posts.
Us? There's actually an 'us'?
So, once again, Bob G. (a.k.a. 'us'), Trump is not my hero.

Many people, including Obama, have compassion for, and wish to help, those less fortunate than themselves. This is an indication of positive character traits that you and your racist, misogynistic, homophobic hero are lacking.
Once again, Peter, Trump is not my hero. Please stop trying to force your personality on that 'matter'.
Just replying to Peter's individual post - I am no longer following this thread.
There is a truly terrible situation going on right now, where illegal immigrants are afraid to come forward in the Houston flood - and remain living/hiding in dangerous conditions. At a time like this, mercy is not only applicable, but should overcome the law if the law doesn't make room for it. All life is precious. I don't care if the democrats are being opportunistic about their immigration policies in this situation, the value of life should come first, and leniency of some sort should be the mandate so these people can come forward to get help without fear of being reported. I hope this is being considered. I know both parties are working together on funding, but funding isn't everything here (thought it is clearly critical).

To bad Obama didn't have respect for the rule of law. IF that were the case then there would be no DACA illegals.
Not so?
How long should an illegal immigrant hide from the law before they force themselves as legal?
10 years, 20 years?
What part of the word > illegal < don't you understand? The 'legal' part or the 'il' part?
