Sad news. Here is a short clip from his birthday party last year.

Inspiring to see someone at age 110 with all their mental faculties and good humour.

It was a pleasure to have known Zoltan. He was always a gentleman.
For a chessplayer, Zoltan played during the golden era of chess -
from Emanuel Lasker and Capablanca to Spassky and Fischer and
before the computer-assisted games of the current era.

Very sad news. Zoltan lived a very full and rich life. Emanuel Lasker (born 1868) was World Champion when he was born; Magnus Carlsen (born 1990) was World Champion when he passed away. Rest In Peace, Zoltan, and just think about all the great chess games you have waiting for you in Heaven!! :)

This is very sad news indeed. Zoltan was an inspiration for me and I would often tell family and friends about him. At his 100th birthday party he walked briskly up the stairs and his handshake grip was stronger than mine! Although with a very sharp mind Zoltan was the perfect gentleman and very humble with his words. I noted in the chessbase article that he had a nice win against Lawrence Day and a hundred years of chess. Who else could say that! A remarkably full life of chess. RIP Zoltan.

Originally posted by J. Ken MacDonald View PostI can't resist repeating this story from awhile back. Around 2010, I saw that Zoltan was having trouble completing his taxes. I offered to help. He readily accepted. On doing his taxes, I noted considerable trading in the stock market. I asked him why he was trading so much. His reply, "I can't play chess so well/much any longer, so I needed a hobby!" He did quite well at his new "hobby!"
if you find out about an official obituary (in the Toronto Star or elsewhere?) please post a link to that...
you may want to also send that to Spraggett - he seems to think reports of Sarosy's passing are (somehow?) not confirmed... (I won't bother posting a link to K.S. website)...Mike Pence: the Lord of the fly.
