  • Warmerdam seemed to be doing well against Maghsoodloo. Then he allowed too much counterplay and missed key moves. Time pressure?

    • In the Challengers Hans Niemann played a nice maneuvering game eventually breaking through on the kingside.

      • Korobov played a nice finish sacking two exchanges and then using all his positional trumps.

        • Maurizzi patiently played the endgame to score a sure win.

          • Powerful win by Dardha. His opponent took severe postional risks.

            • Rd 9 Mendonca Santos Latasa Best endgame of the tournament! (sorry Erwin). With 32.Rg1 which was played with brass moxy White initiated a queen sacrifice which led to dominating piece play. In the endgame White had B+N+P vs rook but not easy to proceed. Black had several stalemate tries. What a game!

                    • In the Challenger Maurizzi still has the clear lead with 6.5 but Mendonca is fast and furious on his heels with 6.

                            • Our first result is in the Challengers and its a dilly, a miniature. Santos Latasa vs Beukema. Black's position looks ok at move 20 except for one big problem. 20.e6! and the position gets ugly or collapses. Beukema chose to ignore and after pawn captures and Ng5. Just about any chessplayer could play the rest.

                              • Rd 10 Donchenko vs Gukesh was an exciting opening with pawn storms on both sides. There are ongoing fireworks in the middlegame, Gukesh style, and promises of a fascinating endgame. What more could a fan want?
