https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1129677 Spassky beats one of the greatest trainers ever. I went into a trance watching the pawns go up the board and getting the eerie feeling that spassky was toying with his opponent. A vintage Spassky endgame, I'm almost tempted to give it immortal status.

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1129678 Mysterious resignation, but no, not really. Upon examination nothing can be done against the threats. Dare I call it a zugzwang game?

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1129679 Spassky loved playing this opening from both sides and he kept finding creative ideas. In an innocuous position all the rooks get traded on the C-file but Spassky wins a pawn and thats all he needs but its the way he does it that makes it a great endgame, I would say an immortal candidate.

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1111119 Then there is this match. Judit Polgar at 16 was already an incredible player. In this the first game sacrifice meets sacrifice and Judit parts with the queen. A lovely picture appears on the board and the draw is justified.

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1111120 Spassky turns from a loss to an incredible win! His king walks the plank all the way up the board and leads the way to the win. Definitely an immortal candidate endgame.

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1111121 Not to be outdone Judith massages Spassky to an endgame win with the temporary Nc6 sacrifice but picking off the rest of his position.

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1111125 Sack and counter sack but Spassky's kingside is shattered. However it takes a glorious endgame to pull off the win!

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1111126 What a game! Full knight powerplay on display. Spassky gets the queen but Judith has initially two knights and a rook for it. They cant coordinate but Judith finds a perpetual of sorts at the end. A fully cooperative effort.

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1111101 Last game of the match and Spassky pulls off a win as Black and what a win! Spassky sacks on d5 to create mobile passed pawns in the centre and on the queenside and Judith looks done. Look at Spassky's yeoman knight! But Judith defends amazingly. At the end Spassky triumphs. More than just a vintage Spassky endgame.

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1129685 Whole board play by Spassky in a closed position. Notice the endless maneuvering as he slowly builds his postion. I wonder where he was planning his breakthrough?
