Great sparring by Yip and Yu leads to a fascinating endgame.
Unfortunately Carissa Yip decides to force the draw.

Rd 8 Since 2017 Ive known how extremely good a player Sam Shankland is but my respect has climbed even more viewing this game (Aronian vs Shankland) Purely delightful moves. The song sung by Elton John goes: He shall be Levon but maybe it should be: He shall beat Levon! This game in Mahmud's words is: Absolutely delicious!

One little mistake on a6. Chess is so hard.

                          Couldn't Shankland draw with 40....Bd5?

and what is going on in the Woodward - Sevian game? Talk about subtle maneuvering. There must be something in the water in St. Louis

I've got only one prediction in this game. Hint: bishop of ops favours the attacker. Kudos to Woodward for seeing it through.

Liang - So Inspired play on both sides. Maybe its just the drugs Im on. I'm seeing more than I have in a long time.

                                Again - delicious play!
