Fascinating play in Oparin - Mishra.

Rd 8 Women's In Yu vs Paikidze its a typical Nimzo Indian and it looks like Black has won the battle with the gorgeous knights on d5 and c4. So how is it that Yu's game is still alive?

I think Paikidze chose to cash in too early.

Alice Lee is seeing the fruits of her great strategic play against Abrahamyan.

I know Cervantes Landeiros is a graduate of the Polgar school of preventing hard knocks but there is something lacking in her play.

Carissa Yip normally crushes in the middlegame but here she is playing a great endgame.

A stunning overlook by Sargsyan with the automatic 10.0-0? Shows good players can have off days.

Zatonskih started a massive exchange of pieces and before she knew it she was in deep trouble. Her play smacks of desperation.

Oparin vs Mishra, Sevian vs Sweircz, and Liang vs So were all well played draws and delicious endgames, but the cagey competitor in me tells me that Wesley So pulled off a somewhat lucky escape. I just don't know quite how yet.

How can such a young talented grandmaster (Woodward) play like such a beginner, especially after playing such an amazing game. Obviously one must avoid the exchange of queens in such a position.

The Caruana vs Robson game is such a delight I don't want to see it end. Too bad a game can't go on forever. Sigh.

I'm over the moon at Alice Lee's play. What a great demonstration!

I can't be;ieve Pourkashiyan messed it up. What an undeserved escape by Sargsyan.

The same can be said about Atwell's play against Zatonskih. These young ladies need to learn strategy in the endgame.

Finally someone shows how its done. A good endgame demonstration by Irina Krush.
