General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
I'm positive about the future too. You must know that no one can be absolutely sure modern scriptures are totally accurate. That's related to what I'm praying for.
I did hear an interesting argument against the theory of evolution the other day. It's that even with wars and plagues, there should be at least thousands of times more people on the earth by now. That's if the world and homo sapiens have been around as long as scientists think.
Science is the new religion.
I think positive is the way to be. I long ago came to terms with the fact I won't last forever. So far science has been ahead of my problems.
Regarding the theory of evolution, a new debate is brewing on the horizon. If we are descended from apes OR if apes are descended from us.
As you can see discoveries are being made on an ongoing basis and being traced back a lot farther than 6,000 years.
I guess a lot depends on point of view regarding intelligence. When I want to see an ape I go to the zoo. When an ape wants to see a human he simply sits and waits.
Who me? I'm not the guy who decided to pay him 100 Million dollars to play and then sat him in the stands to watch.
Anyhow, New Jersey already doesn't sound happy and the guy is probably untradeable. I guess we'll have to bet on how long the coach will last. Maybe 2 months?
you WOULD second-guess a self-made billionaire's business decision
you are an idiot (you are) if you think johnny mac will be fired. you obviously know nothing about our uncle's appreciation of loyalty
let's bet on how long YOU last
everytime it hurts, it hurts just like the first (and then you cry till there's no more tears)
edmonton oilers started last season 5-2-1 so what's your point tubs
You're right Ben, what on earth was I thinking? With a 2-7-1 record (the worst in the NHL) it's obvious we should just end the season now and hand the Devils the Stanley Cup...
No matter how big and bad you are, when a two-year-old hands you a toy phone, you answer it.
I think the name of new jersey's hockey team is going to be changed later. The devil's real enough. I once was tempted by an infernal vision of a white haired woman with pointed eyebrows, but i'd rather not get into it. The devil's not much worth talking about. Again, ben can call me insane. :)
Little disagreement with your comments. While glancing at the game, I thought 17.Ne5 was worth a look. Fired up Houdini on it and actually, 17.Ne5 crushes black a lot quicker than what happened in the game. The variations are much trickier than it looks, though.
First, you're threatening mate in one and if 17....Nd6, 18.Bf4 is crushing. So black has to take.
17.Ne5 Nxe5 18.dxe5
and now what? Bd7 seems like a logical defensive move, but white can keep the pressure by threatening to double up on the d file so...
18...Bd7 19.Bf4
And then, I first thought that black is simply lost because after Red2, he can't move anything. But the computer suggests:
19...Nf6
Good defensive try, but white can still do some serious damage.
20.exf6 Qxf4 21.g3!
And, surprisingly, black can't do anything. If he takes on f6, white plays 22.Qa4, threatening to take on a7 or c6. And if black goes with 21...Qc7, the hard to see 22.f7!! just keep black all tied up behind his pawns. There's still some work left, but it seems black is in permanent trouble from there.
As others said, I can't understand why people would play that with black.

Either I didn't see Ne5 or the variations being trickier are the reasons I didn't play the quicker win.
