General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.

It is great that Ontario is taking such a lead with their Green Energy Act; we are the envy of many places in the world. Here is a link full of details on how solar is the way of the future.

If it's so good, why has France put a moratorium on new solar installations until it re-evaluates its feed in tariffs.
In any case, I have shares in a company with a solar division. They are either selling it or spinning it off to share holders. It seems to be a draw on the earnings of the rest of the company.
I'm thinking of buying shares of a company with a fair amount of wind power. They also have coal powered and have a couple of coal mines. The wind, biomass and geothermal plants are interesting but for me the meat and potatoes is the coal and natural gas electricity plants. I also like the biomass. One of the places I used to service was biomass. They burned wood. Stuff like old skids, cabinets, etc., etc. The backup for when they didn't have enough wood was natural gas. It was a sizeable generating plant.
Have you ever been through any of those type of generating plants we discuss?
...like why Weiner should resign. I never could figure out why guys with hot wives have to do such stupid things with women who look rather dull in comparison to their spouses.
There's a new meat company just started up: Schwarzenegger Weiner.
Only the rushing is heard...
Onward flies the bird.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
I like the idea of climate change deniers tatooing their beliefs on their body so that when they change their minds they can be reminded of their denial.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Global warming derangement syndrome in full f/x. It must have driven you insane when Harper won. Cue a repeat in the Ontario election. Cue further repeat in the U.S. election where cap and trade will never happen.
Paul even for you and the Toronto Star that article is whole new level of imaginary chicken little scenarios. Twenty foot rise in sea level? LOL. Is this the figure you get when you add the global warming science fiction adjustment factors?
Where is this twenty feet of water going to come from? I could see it if all the ice around the world were to melt at once. Two degrees Celsius won't do it.
How did Mann do in the lawsuit against the individuals behind the "Hide the decline" song? He lost, I believe. Something about truth being a defense in a libel case.
The local bombshell this weekend was that Sandra Pupatello, a popular local Ontario Liberal cabinet minister and MPP has decided not to run again. It isn't the water in the oceans that is rising. Your political ship is sinking. I had figured that as one of the safe Liberal seats in the province. Perhaps there are some private polls that suggest that the seat was not as safe as one might suppose.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Education time for the climate change deniers...
Green Energy is great for job creation, reducing emissions, and cleaning up the air we breathe. Many more jobs are created per $ than nuclear, oil, coal, etc, especially when you count the externalities... http://www.therecord.com/opinion/col...aving-us-money
Regarding sea level rise. Twenty feet of water is going to come from ice melt of glaciers/ice shelves on land. West Antarctic Ice sheet is 6-7 meters, Greenland is 6-7 meters.
Facts 1) Peak of last ice age (21,000 years ago) a lot of ocean water was in ice form on land covered glaciers; sea level was 120 meters (about 360 feet) lower than today.
Fact 2) With no ice on planets poles, sea level would be 67 meters higher than today (about 200 feet or so).
Fact 3) Vlad needs to learn some climate science, perhaps he could look up a course at his local university?
Fact 4) Michael Mann has successfully warded off all critics, and the hockey stick curve has been validated many times over (yet still the climate deniers fail to recognize reality).
Anecdote: I spoke with some farmers from Saskatchewan who were in Ottawa for the PC convention. They have only been able to plant about 15% of their fields, the bulk of their fields are under water. The family has farmed many generations, and does not recall things being this bad. Their farming community is very worried about how people in the cities will feed themselves soon.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Fact 1) If the entire arctic ocean melts it will not add much to sea level rise because the ice is already floating on the water. Temperatures would have to rise significantly more than even the worst case scenarios of the alarmists for the scale of the melt to cause significant rises in the ocean.
Fact 2) The current projected rise in sea level is 1.8 mm per year as it has been over the last 100 years. Alarmists like Paul are making predictions of 7 meter rises in the near future but the current trends suggest this would take more than 4000 years. If we can't adjust over that time frame perhaps we don't deserve to survive as a species.
Fact 3) Global warming will lead to more evaporation and precipitation over glaciers and the Antarctic which will counteract the ocean rise.
Fact 4) The hockey stick graph has been discredited.
Fact 5) Michael Mann has been "exonerated" by colleagues with a direct financial interest in his research and activities who don't want to upset the gravy train. Even so, I believe that they referred some of his activities as revealed in the Climategate emails for further investigation (delay tactics to let the story die down).
Fact 6) This crusade is more about the barren inner landscape in Paul's psyche by which he is trying to make up for his own perceived sins by projecting these transgressions out onto the world of man at large. Environmental nutcases want a world with a much smaller population though they don't practice what they preach. They expect others to drink the poisoned Koolaid while they the high priests of the new religion administer the spoils created by their radical wealth redistribution schemes.
Fact 7) If the alarmists are right, we are screwed because carbon dioxide production is going to go up as China and India and other nations industrialize and build the coal plants to power their emergence as industrial powerhouses in the world economy. There will be no stopping this trend without a very large war or some kind of ebola like outbreak on a worldwide scale.
Fact 8) The alarmists are wrong. They have always been wrong. They will continue to be wrong. They even know they are wrong but need panic to sell newspapers and goad a largely indifferent population into making concessions and throwing money at them and the new bureaucracies that they hope to be part of and profit from.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
How can an otherwise sane person (I assume) lose all sense of reason and start foaming at the mouth like a raving lunatic when the topic of climate change is discussed? Every one of Vlad's so-called facts above are incorrect, every one. I can provide multiple peer-reviewed papers to show this since climate change is my field of study but what is the point; it gets tiresome dealing with these deniers. Vlad is a lost cause.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Huge job growth? LOL. What about the loss of jobs in other sectors because of idiotic "green" policies?
Adding in the left wing poll fudge factor it appears that Hudak is headed for a majority government. What is surprising is that there is any support left for the Liberals in Ontario.
They are falling like dominos your "green" leaning governments.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Vlad has used many of the arguments below:
An essay on climate change denial
The subject of climate change denial has been covered intensively by the world press over the past decade. Advancments in climate change denial can be linked to many areas. Indispensable to homosapians today, climate change denial is featuring more and more in the ideals of the young and upwardly mobile. Since it was first compared to antidisestablishmentarianism much has been said concerning climate change denial by global commercial enterprises, who are likely to form a major stronghold in the inevitable battle for hearts and minds. Hold onto your hats as we begin a journey into climate change denial.
Social Factors
Society is our own everyday reality. When blues legend 'Bare Foot D' remarked 'awooooh eeee only my dawg understands me' [1] he borrowed much from climate change denial. Difference among people, race, culture and society is essential on the survival of our world, however climate change denial is quite good.
Did I mention how lovely climate change denial is? It breaks the mould, shattering man's misunderstanding of man.
Economic Factors
Derived from 'oikonomikos,' which means skilled in household management, the word economics is synonymous with climate change denial. We will primarily be focusing on the Greek-Roman model, a complex but ultimately rewarding system. Average
Wage
climate change denial
The statistics make it clear that climate change denial is a major market factor. In spite of the best efforts of The World Bank the average wage has always depended upon climate change denial to a certain extent, but now more that ever. Many analysts fear a subsequent depression.
Political Factors
Politics - smolitics! Comparing international relations since the end of the century can be like observing climate change denial and political feeling.
In the words of the star of stage and screen Vatusia Lionel Forbes Dickinson 'consciousness complicates a myriad of progressions.' [2] This quotation leads me to suspect that he was not unaccustomed to climate change denial. It speaks volumes. I feel strongly that if politicians spent less time thinking about climate change denial and put more effort into their family life, that we would have a very different country.
I hope, for our sake that climate change denial will endure.
Conclusion
To conclude, climate change denial parades along man's streets and man waves back. It fills a hole, puts out 'fires', and is always fashionably late.
What a great essay. Finally a word from super-star Miles Malkovitch: 'I wouldn't be where I am today without climate change denial.' [3]
