Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. 2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.

I am wasting my time with you when I should be out talking to people about the implications of re-electing Liberals in Ontario next October. If we can remove the threat at the source by removing them from office then the AGW crowd will be as impotent as the federal NDP and Liberals are right now.

Bob, assuming that you are correct on the anthropogenic portion of AGW, how much are you willing to pay personally, right now, to the nearest $10,000 to lower the projected rise in temperature of 2 degrees over the next century to a more managable 1.95 degrees? Once we have your answer we just have to convince everyone else (or more realistically 65% of the voting population) to make the same commitment.
That is the real question up for debate. I suspect that the answer will tell me if we will have to lower the target to a 1.9999 degrees rise over the next century or so.

The delicious dandelions are pretty much done, so my wife and I just went out and picked some grape leaves down at the park. It's local eating and free. Plus we got to check out the grapes themselves (still need a few weeks). Go green, eat neighbourhood greens.

Vlad seems to hate people that are rich, perhaps because he is envious or jealous. If that is the case, why is Vlad supporting Harper who wants more large tax cuts for the rich. I feel sorry for Vlad; he has so many internal inconsistencies he does not know what is up and down.
Giant Carbon footprint: Gore buys carbon offsets. He is one person, how can his footprint alone have any effect on the big picture. He is rich so he has a large house, but he has worked hard to make it as energy efficient as possible.
Al Gore environmentalist billionaire himself: Humans are part of the environment. Our blood has the same salinity of the ocean. People cannot be seperated from the environment. Vlad, in his delusional ranting state tries to portray care for the environment as a bad thing. Maybe there is something in Windsor water causing these delusions, although I doubt it since some wind turbine manufacturing plants are being built in Windsor, and they are NDP supporters federally. Once again, the billionaire status is in spite of his environmental/climate change work, not because of it. Big Oil has the power and buckets of money, NOT their opponents...

The article makes a claim and elaborates, but doesn't substantiate the claim.
The claim is that the media needlessly coddles the deniers.
The writer wears his bias on his sleeve. "In one corner of the ring are Science and Reason. In the other corner: Poisonous Polluters and Right-wing Ideologues." So evidently no weighing of evidence is going to take place here. There is no attempt to evaluate evidence.
To summarize, the author says certain groups are biased, have a false point of view, and therefore their claims of the opposite are meaningless propaganda.
I don't know if global warming theories are true or false, but this article is weak. The last paragraph is good though:

One of these days, global warming (in the nicer months of the years, at least) will reach Montreal. Looks like winters are getting warmer - but not summers. Browsing through weather records of the last 65 years I find:
2011: 2 days (so far) with temperatures of 30 or higher.
2010: 8 days with temperatures of 30 or higher.
2009: 7 days with temperatures of 30 or higher.
1955: 33 (!) days with temperatures of 30 or higher.
1942: 8 days with temperatures of 30 or higher. (the oldest complete year)
On the other hand:
2011: 5 days (so far) with temperatures of -20 or lower.
2010: 2 days with temperatures of -20 or lower.
2009: 10 days with temperatures of -20 or lower.
1955: 17 days with temperatures of -20 or lower.
1942: 23 (!) days with temperatures of -20 or lower.

Careful there Paul your incoherent sputtering could lead to an aneurism or heart attack. I don't deny real science. Many of the high priests of climate change "science" are not engaged in serious or real science at all.

Talk about inconvenient truths...
One instance of Al Gore claiming that he took the initiative to create the internet is given in the youtube video link just below. I saw others on live tv including this one with Wolf Blitzer on CNN. I saw him make similar claims in candidate debates.
So Paul it appears that Al Gore has made this claim and you are the one promoting a complete lie which does not surprise me since your religious leaders in the anthropogenic global warming movement explicitly say that this is the game plan.

Is it your claim then that Al Gore falsified his net worth statement in 2001? That is a very serious allegation. If not, then it is obvious that he has made a lot of money since that time through his advocacy for anthropogenic global warming since that has been his full time job.
He has made almost no money (relative to his net worth) on climate change messaging. Any money he has made has gone back into his advocacy non-profits, etc.
Al Gore was worth $800,000 in 2001 according to his public record disclosure statement under penalty of perjury. Conservative estimates of his wealth now range in the $100 million to $1 billion range. If the U.S. were to adopt a cap and trade system he would certainly transition to a range well beyond that. He is pushing and profiting from the smart meter programs which are similar to the program which will be scrapped in Ontario when the Conservatives win.
I don't dislike Al Gore because he is rich. I love the rich. I wish there were very many more of them. I dislike Al Gore because he lies about global warming in order to advance his own financial self interests.
If all of his money has gone back into non-profits then how did he afford all those mansions particularly the ocean front one which seems curious since he is on the record as being of the opinion that it is in imminent danger of being buried under 7 meters of sea water in the near future...
The carbon offsets are a new development necessitated as a response to Fox News criticisms of his lavish carbon footprint. Purchasing those offsets does not in any way diminish his own contribution to global warming if he is right. Further this is typical of the masters of the universe attitude of the proponents of your new religion. When the Copenhagen Conference was going on, members of the Democratic Congress and Senate who went there as observers did not go on regular commercial flights like regular Joes would. They went on Gulf Streams and charter flights and U.S. government owned aircraft with one VIP per plane. Car pooling is okay for us plebian masses but the overlords of the environmental movement can't deal with the inconvenience despite the environmental ramifications of their choices.

Paul you won't be able to BS your way through this. Financial transactions in public companies are largely public knowledge as a consequence of public disclosure requirements. I don't have any problem with Al Gore getting rich on the backs of the gullible like yourself. I just don't want him to get rich on my back directly or indirectly through sweetheart deals with governments.

Obviously most of the funds will have to come from North Americans, Europeans and members of the so called first world with a smaller portion from countries like Russia and China. The GDP per capita in some African nations is $200 or $300 per year according to 2010 numbers. It would not be realistic to expect people who are surviving on the cutting edge of extinction will be able to financially contribute very much to the fight against man-made global warming.
If the entire world followed McGuinty`s strategy it would probably cost more than that. His pricing of 80 cents per kilowatt hour for green projects is more than anyone else is paying, anywhere in the world as far as I can tell. Even if McGuinty wins the next election, his strategy is not sustainable as we are eventually going to lose a decision in the World Trade Organization and once he doesn`t even have the thin pretense of Ontario jobs to back up his idiocy it will quickly be dropped.

Further to Alan`s question McGuinty`s policies represent only the initial beach head of the assault on our wallets. Cap and trade which McGuinty is a big fan of is the really big elephant in the room.
The $7 billion Samsung deal is small potatoes compared to that one if they manage to get it off the ground. The benefits to Ontario of the Samsung deal probably amount to about $200 to $300 million if the $80 per kilowatt hour figure applies. The benefits may even be less if you consider the inefficiencies of the system as it is currently conceived and applied.
