Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links

12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.

14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Well, I guess what bothers me is that you are quick to praise CMA for our success, but neglect to give any credit to the volunteers at MCC. For sure some of our kids were introduced to chess via CMA, but do you not agree that the lions share of credit for the MCC junior program should go to the volunteers at the MCC?
Each week, the three amigos (Paul, Vince, and yours truly) carpool in from Burlington. The first task is to get the room ready to handle 90+ kids. Unfortunately, we inherit a room with round tables. So we need to push them aside and setup the room with proper tables and chairs. Then we brace ourselves for the flood of kids and parents. It gets quite crazy as I pair them up for their games, Paul deals with the parents, Vince helps out with stray kids and prepares for the adults at 8pm. I would also like to acknowledge volunteers John, Lynda, and Robert who help out with their assigned tasks. Then at 11pm we have to put all the furniture back the way we found it.
The success of the Mississauga Junior chess program is due primarily to the hard work and dedication of the volunteers at MCC.
Mikhail, junior chess does not begin and end with CMA. There are many other junior chess programs across the country due to the blood sweat and tears of local organizers. They all deserve our thanks and praise. We work together and we grow together.
Again, congratulations to CMA for more than 25 years of success.

Yes, I agree that there are many organizations, but Larry build something really special in last 25 years!
One should not ask or demand for thanks or congratulations for something that he did. It would not be right. If individual did something really special, people will notice it, and will congratulate him/her for it in due time. Patience is the key.:)
There is a saying: 'If you build it, it will come'. ;)

I've been to the Mississauga Club as a visitor and a member.
and I don't believe that CMA is the only driving factor that Kids come to Mississauga.
I have sent about 30 kid inquires to Mississauga. They never heard about CMA before they got my name from the CFC website. Not sure if Bob and company got them to join as I have not been back for awhile.
One suggestion Bob if you are now getting so many juniors I'd suggest that you start Group Round Robins that way the juniors know who they play each week ahead of time and it will save you mountains of pairing problems.
The new juniors that join can join the next Round Robin Group.
If you insist on swiss pairings then I'd suggest the new joiners play against the odd man out for the first night and then pair them in the system next week.
I miss the club but playing times are not convenient for bus travel even with the new Zum from Square One.
Maybe if I could arrange a ride from UTM to Square One. I might be able to get home before dawn.;-) and I'd join again in a minute. You are a great bunch of players and your Club needs support.
I'm glad to see there are other clubs that support chess and do not have to be in Scarborough which by the way I have joined before as well. Now that your numbers are up why not challenge Scarborough to a team match???

"if you build it, they will come" is exactly my point. It is the executive and volunteers of the Mississauga club who have successfully built our junior club, not Larry. I am the first one to acknowledge and congratulate Larry and CMA for their achievements.
I am sure Larry is willing to acknowledge that our success is due in large part to the efforts of the Mississauga club executive and volunteers, just as we are happy to acknowledge their contribution. It still puzzles me why you refuse to acknowledge the contribution of MCC volunteers.

Thank you John. Referrals from many organizers like yourself, word of mouth, our website, there are many roads to MCC. We have never kept track of where everyone came from, does it matter? We are grateful to all. If we work together, we will grow together.

Not to hijack this spirited debate, but as a point of information, the Scarborough CC has 56 % adults, and 44 % juniors, all playing in the same swiss, in 2 sections. In the U 1800 section, the juniors compose 54 %. All juniors play with a clock and know how to record their games ( which is Game/90 ). It is true however, that some of them are not rank beginners, but are just starting to progress ( we have one 800's rating and a number in the 900's ). I believe the youngest is 7 years old.
We have a total of 97 registered in our current Howard Ridout Memorial Swiss.

I am going to work on some stats for MCC, but I would guess we probably have at least 2 dozen 7 year olds or younger.
No doubt you would kick out butts over the board in a club vs. club match, but we win in the running the halls and general mayhem categories. :D
