General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
CFC is never going to go back to a print magazine - I think the discussion so far has indicated almost no support for that option. The CFC Governors have not intention of going back to a print magazine, unless there was a members' tsunami for it, and even then..............
The issue is that the CCN costs too much; it is focussed too significantly on international news; it is focussed more on the elite player, which is a minority ( in-depth study articles ); and " Canadian content " should be its niche.
It is these issues that need discussion, to see if there is a fairly substanial agreement with this analysis.
It is generally felt that the CFC should provide its members ( and maybe the public ) with an e-newlsetter, but one scaled down and more focussed on Canadian news. There is no movement to junk the e-newsletter completely. It is a worthy project for member revenue, even if also distributed to the public, if that be decided as well.
Comments??

My comment would be that you are twisting what everyone is saying to support your apparent point of view: That the newsletter should be scaled back is the only option.
Not to mention that you think a poll on Chesstalk is statistically important in any way. And not to mention that you're willing to write off a proposed option because it had only one person (a GM-elect) support it within the first 15 hours of it being posted (most of that being overnight).
This should be the start of the discussion. We should figure out all the options first, and only then eliminate unfeasible ones, and only THEN getting feedback on which other ones to eliminate due to lack of support.
You've jumped right to getting feedback on your one preferred option.
As a matter of fact, I personally also would be willing to spend an extra $10 or even a bit more if it got me a printed magazine. That may not end up being my "preferred" option - I don't know yet because we haven't even come up with all of the options yet.
It is quite hard to give away an e-magazine at clubs and tournaments... Some food for thought here. Maybe something, if not necessarily a full printed magazine, has to be printed so that we have an effective tool for promotional purposes.
An e-magazine would be emailed.
With promotion you have to have someone to target with the promotion. The junior membership seems to stay roughly the same. I think they have to find a way to interest adults. Also the strong players. I don't think a magazine would do it.
With the good players once they finish with junior chess and the world travel, I don't see what there is for them unless they can be very good GM's. I guess the idea is to get a job and play the weekend Swiss tournaments for small prizes or travel to other nations to play.
Agree! Tournament ads, tournament reports, Canadian chess events, printable to distribute at tournaments. And a Canadian game of the month, annotated.
What we can't get on the Internet is the "Canadian game of the month, annotated," This would be valuable content worth paying for [although I'm one of those non-paying Life members]. A GM/IM/IWM notes on their significant games provides great insight that computer analysis never will. It would be great to hear tournament stories from all our titled players. Paying them would contribute to their chess income, although taking many hours to work on an article won't pay as well as teaching. It make them media personalities to care about and follow their careers. This would market them as tournament attractions and teachers, simuls and lectures.

Considering things like the ever increasing cost to mail a magazine, I don't really know if it's the best option.
I was a bit surprised when I had a look at the governors meeting voting. Particularly the voting on the CCN magazine. Personally, and I stress it's only an opinion, I wouldn't be looking to replace a reasonably strong player who is doing a reasonable job with the magazine. Cheaper isn't always better. Do the people voting know how much time and effort goes into putting together a national e-magazine?

Gary, how many last issues have you seen? Stronger does not mean better (editor)
