              Les Bunning
If all CYCC participants avoid the late fee then you'll need about 345 entrants to get your $40,000. 345 entrants would also give the organizers nearly $26,000 to cover their costs and the CFC about $11,600 (in addition to the $40,000) to cover their administrative fee. Presumably these numbers would leave the organizers with about $20,000 to assist with CO expenses (including TDs fees and fees for organizers, if any).

Keeping in mind that my numbers are based on the organizers' hope, as stated by Les, that they will generate sufficient monies to cover a WYCC team expense of $40,000, my questions are: 1) why should the parents of these children be expected to help pay CO expenses?; 2) does the CFC really need admin. fees of nearly $12,000?; 3) what does the CFC do with any 'admin. fee' monies that are surplus to their actual admin. fee requirements? i.e. does the CFC hold such surplus monies to (a) fund future junior programs or (b) does the surplus just get dumped into general operating revenues? 4) if (b), then why should the parents of these children be expected to fund a portion of the CFC's general operating expenses?

Peter, I can see from the tone of your questions that there remains some residual concern in the chess community as to the propriety of how the CFC administers the Youth fund. To address these concerns, we began providing detailed financial reports on the Youth fund to the Governors. The 2010 and 2011 reports can be found in past quarterly governors meetings. The 2012 report will be presented at the April governors meeting. IMHO, the governors are satisfied that Youth funds are being administered properly and not being bled off into general revenues.

Peter, why not drop in at the Hamilton club someday? Just be warned, we have moved since you last visited so check the website. You can play some chess and/or we can talk about this further if you wish. :)

Thanks, Bob, I appreciate the information. I'll check out those reports and I will drop into the club one of these days. You know, when I retired I figured there would be lots of time for chess but it seems I have less time for chess than when I was working full-time. I think it must have something to do with my wife uttering those words, "Your day needs some structure." :)
