Wow, almost as many as Windsor! You're playing in the major league now, Bob.

      Hi Bob G and John:

And Scarborough CC has 22 pre-registered players - hope I didn't miss anyone (our membership is now 50% junior!! - and all integrated into the regular Thurs. night swiss, with the adults).

Pictures of many of them can be found on the SCC FB page: https://www.facebook.com/ScarboroughChessClub

Good job! There isn't even that many players from Quebec, altough it's closer and there's nearly 500 FQE junior players :(

How can so many players afford it? Do you offer any kind of funding?

          Hi Felix:

Because of the way SCC integrates the juniors right into the regular Thurs. night swisses, with the adults, we find our juniors are very competitive and wanting to improve. They can win in the three sections, and often do. As they improve, they move up a section in recognition. So the parents are encouraged to support their kids improvement, and many who can, do.

SCC has only a very modest "Junior Development Program Award" annually: to the juniors who attend the WYCC representing Canada - an SCC recognition certificate, and an annual SCC and CFC renewal. It is more of a token award, but the juniors like it, and so do the parents, especially since the whole process from preliminary qualifying tournament to the CYCC to the WYCC is costly and a major time-committment.

LOL :) I am excited to see how our team does "in the big leagues". We don't have nearly the numbers of "seasoned veterans" as Windsor or Scarborough. We have a few "veterans", but most are "rookies". Many of them have little or no experience at these longer time controls. It will be a challenge indeed, but their enthusiasm will compensate.

Will Mississauga be the cinderella story of 2013?, :) or maybe in 2014!

We have 13 from Seneca Hill Chess Club and another 17 from Sunday Oriole Chess, which is run by Seneca Hill Chess Club! Some of them play in more than one club though.
Glad to see many girls participating!

BC has 35 kids this year. Maybe is like a "thank you" gesture for the number of Ontario players participating in last year Surrey CYCC.

                  Re: Mississauga at the CYCC

When the CFC governors passed the requirement that the CYCC become a "qualification tournament", and that the provinces begin holding provincial Youth CC qualifiers, many governors had doubts. The initiative was very halting at the start, and it was not clear whether it was going to work. Some provinces simply declared they weren't going to participate.

But the last couple of years seems to have proven those initial somewhat far-sighted governors were right. Not only do we have record numbers at the CYCC, we have myriads of juniors across a good part of this country now playing in many qualifiers each year.

It seems to me there can be some modest pride in CFC for its initiative here to promote youth chess in Canada.

                    The crosstables are now posted.

                    Round 2: 10.5 /17
                    Total for day 1: 17 / 34 (50%)

A good first day for this cinderella team! :)

The Aurora CC has several players too. Two of them have 2/2 :) Way to go!
Though my interest will be success of those who came to have a practice at Aurora Open. I counted that 28 players participate (79 players total in Open. Great percentage :) Their results:
                      R1 21 (75%)
                      R2 14.5 (51.8%)
                      Total 35.5(63.4%)

Oops - forgot young miss Harmony Zhu in the U 8 Girls - 8 players. In Rd. 3, playing on first board. So if my count is now finally correct, SCC has 25 juniors at the CYCC!

For real numbers, eliminate the games played between same team members.
