General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
I think the China covid numbers are as fake as adjusted temperature numbers used to support climate change. Fox News scoop that the virus originated in the Wuhan lab and not the wet market which was not selling the type of bats which the virus originated in is now also being reported on CNN after many weeks of saying such reports were racist. President Trump did not confirm or deny the reports at yesterday's news conference. He declined to comment which felt very much like a confirmation. It is news that is leaking from many sources.
So CNN says only that the lab-source possibility is being investigated, which seems totally plausible, and also doesn't appear to be a "hot lead", but rather straightforward intelligence prudence.
I'm also unaware that bats had been definitively identified as the animal source, but that it may be pangolins. If bats have indeed been "convicted", I would love to read up on that source, thanks.
Finally, if by some brutal chance this pandemic was not an accident, or The Orange One convinces people that must be the case, then I fear that we are in for a genuine super-powers conflict.
So the Worldometer site seems to have changed some denominators, and one effect of that is that the U.S. is now firmly in 13th place in numbers of deaths per million people of population. It's now sitting at 99, and if you exclude the 4 tiny countries in the top 12, the 8 countries worse than the U.S. for deaths per million are (in worsening order): Sweden(132), Switzerland(147), Netherlands(193), U.K.(202), France(263), Italy(358), Spain(409), Belgium(419). Canada is at 28, and has been regularly tracking at about 2/7 of the U.S. numbers.
Canada has now 1,191 dead, over my 1,000 prediction, while the US is barelling along at 33,460 to my 50,000 conservative prediction. Canada would be much lower if not for the spread in senior homes caused mostly by part-time labour jumping from place to place and lack of testing available for staff. A month ago probably infected casual workers said on tv that they can't afford to stay home. Infected permanent staff can't stay home as there is a worker shortage. Meanwhile, brutally, families can't visit.
Finally, if by some brutal chance this pandemic was not an accident, or The Orange One convinces people that must be the case, then I fear that we are in for a genuine super-powers conflict.
Trump will do whatever he perceives to be in his own self interests, the truth is for him completely irrelevant. For now he seems content to deem this to have been an accident, but if he believes that it would serve himself to change this opinion then he will. His supporters (sycophants) will change their opinions with him for they are just as uninterested in the truth as he is.
Finally, if by some brutal chance this pandemic was not an accident, or The Orange One convinces people that must be the case, then I fear that we are in for a genuine super-powers conflict.
Interesting timing to release suspicious about nuclear tests.

My favourite recent CNN stories are the ones with Chris Cuomo confined to his basement home in quarantine.
Seems like "his basement" and "quarantine" depends on one's exact meaning of these words.

Nice article! Personally I dislike Don Lemon much more however. Sean Hannity, of FOX, just referred to him as a jackass. Agreed. But I cannot think of a single one of these people that I do like. All of them, as I have suggested before, are paid to be hopelessly biased in their opinions. They all appeal to emotion rather than reason. The truth has got to be somewhere in the middle, and America is done a great disservice by all of them.
Anton’s head is bursting with thoughts.
The gardener is seething with anger: who has trampled her flower beds?
In the park Anton is looking for someone to play chess with. For someone who plays a better game than his dog. The gardener is looking for a mysterious serial vandal who has lost a yellow boot. But what if both of them are looking for the same thing?

New Jersey is the second state to reach more than 1% of the population infected.
How many people have access to testing will affect the totals, and people without symptoms are not being tested. Just as many people dying at home aren't counted in the deaths.
But I really would like to know which state has the highest per cent of the population who are USCF members/rating.
I am coping by listening to Lord Trump's suggestion of ingesting disinfectants in order to be pro-active with respect to COVID-19. I have discovered that two teaspoons of Comet blended into three ounces of bleach and topped off with a dash of Windex works best for me. We are fortunate to have a genius in charge.
