General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
And how exactly does that negate the facts that Tom Harris stated in the interview? How pathetic, you can't attack the message, so you attack the messenger. Please enlighten us and explain how Tom Harris is incorrect or better still, refute this international group of scientists cited in the interview.
Sid, I am making two points.
Tom Harris has been a paid lobbyist for the fossil fuel industry since 2008. I consider this to be a relevant fact as to the credibility of both the messenger and the message. You don’t, but I felt that a video dated last week with the headline “former climate alarmist call movement a scam” was misleading by implying this to be a recent development. It is not.
I have previously stated I have no interest in debating you (or anyone else) on whether or not anthropogenic climate change is genuine or a hoax. I did my time researching the topic years ago and made my decision, not a hoax. Despite the countless videos and millions of dollars spent by the fossil fuel industry to convince me this is all a hoax, they failed. The overwhelming majority of climate scientists backed by 50 years of corroborating evidence have convinced me.
I have appreciated the videos on the dangers of geo-engineering the climate and rethinking the need for nuclear power. Good stuff.
I am interested in new developments, ideas, strategies for survival, new modelling and data, but not in all the recycled “it a hoax” BS. Can’t we just agree to disagree on that?
194 governments...with each one of them trying to balance the gain of votes from activism against the gain of bribes from the fuel industry...
and you find it so impressive? Get back to real facts, Bob G....
The real facts are that 194 governments did sign the Paris Accords in 2015 to combat climate change.
The real facts are that 194 governments did sign the Paris Accords in 2015 to combat climate change.
....not because there is a climate crisis, but because signing the accord would win them the activists' votes....
as evidenced by subsequent inaction while enjoying the bribes from the fuel industry....

There was a time when we could do that, no more. You have been lied to about the safety efficacy of vaccines, the safety and efficacy of many early treatments,
asymptomatic transmission existing (it does not) and without asymptomatic transmission no need for lockdowns, making healthy people etc.
Now that the narrative is crumbling this same murderous govt wants to impose climate restrictions on the population without any scientific basis.
If you have done all of the research then you should have no problem refuting numerous posts I have done, all backed by data. Show me your data and where I am wrong.
As I said I consider the injections a slow kill death shot and I have the science to prove it was well planned and deliberate. So for me to view any MSM drivel or
WEF propaganda whether it is COVID19 or Climate Alarmisim where you simply say to me, "that's crazy," conspiracy theories does not cut it.
Here is an interesting lawsuit filed in New York that laypeople can understand.
Activity last week lagged a bit compare to the week before, and the average throughout 2022 so far.
Climate Change Thread “Responses”
There are lots of climate change articles out there, both on negative anthropogenic climate change, and negative natural climate change.
This thread encourages CT'ers on all sides to re-post here, as responses, the climate change posts of interest they see elsewhere. Overall, ChessTalker's have been quite active here in posting “responses” and it seems that chessplayers across Canada re wanting information on climate change, a challenge unlike any our species has ever faced before.
Note: I personally, as the thread originator, am trying to post a new response at least every 2nd day, but admit my busy schedule means I am sometimes falling short on this. So it is great that a number of other CT'ers are posting responses here somewhat regularly.
The Pressing Climate Change Issue
The core issue:
Building a sense of URGENCY on this issue in society. We must realize that we cannot kick it down the road any longer!
The public is aware of the climate change issue.......
BUT.....
climate activists must find strategies to “AWAKEN” the public to the “urgency”.
It is expected, though somewhat disheartening, to see other negative issues of the day climb immediately to the top of the public's agenda, with climate change being sometimes substantially downgraded in importance. We will all pay for this.........
The Time Line
Nature's Tipping point is estimated to be, on current trajectory, only 9 years away (Around Jan. 1, 2031). Capping the temperature rise at only 1.5 degrees Celsius (the original international target) is now impossible (UN Climate Change Panel's most recent report). Their position is that the problem at this time is mostly due to human activity, and that radical change in our method of living is the only way to avoid this rising, very problematic, temperature. UNCCP noted that current government deadlines were totally insufficient to solve the problem. CO 2 must be capped by 2025! And for the first time, CO 2 “removal” has now become a necessary part of the solution, along with “eliminating” the spewing of greenhouse gases into our atmosphere by human activity.
Our window of opportunity is fast closing.
The Large Picture Solutions
Can we come up with at least one viable suggestion of some impressive, radical thing that might wake up the public, that we could then put out there to other concerned climate activists?
CT'ers' Local Actions on Climate Change
You can do something! When you like one of this thread's links on an aspect of climate change, spread the news by posting it to your social media accounts and other Websites/Discussion Boards you participate in!
So who then is to be the rescuer of the human species?
My view is that the planet Earth will continue on quite fine, thank you very much. There will be some type of life on our planet. It is just that we will have gone extinct under the new, unreversable environment, fatally hostile to the human species.
If not governments (Politicians as a bunch), then will there arise a prophetic politician somewhere on the planet who will influence all into action? What do CT'ers think of the odds of this happening?
Will it be the majority of humans on the planet?.......will they come to their senses? Will they come to their senses IN TIME to be able to do anything effective? What do CT'ers think of the odds of this happening?
Will it be some minority human movement that finally gets through to the majority? Well, we seem to have this already. What do CT'ers think of the odds of this happening?
Some hope for the intervention of the ET's currently residing among us on Earth, covertly. But they generally take the position of non-interference in the local affairs of a planet. The Inter-Galactic Federation's (I-GF) position seems to be: If Earthlings want to kill themselves off, it is none of our business. What do CT'ers think of the odds of this happening?
Looking kind of bleak, isn't it.................
~ Bob A (T-S/P)
P.S. There are those who argue that the main driver of negative climate change, which they agree is happening, is "NATURE".........that we are simply in one of the long-term millenia "heat cycles" and man is a negligible contributor to increasing the rate of current climate change. It seems to me that their position then is simply: "Man has to do what he can to "adapt"......and hope that this heating-up cycle reverses itself naturally before all humans are dead. What do CT'ers think of this hypothesis?

Some good news to relieve your anxiety, Bob A.:
It seems that Climate activists (including scientists predicting doom and gloom) do not believe in their own predictions, as they are preferring to pump tons of CO2 into the atmosphere by travelling to Egypt next month instead of holding a virtual meeting (and sub-meetings amongst smaller groups), which would even be more effective as more could participate...
I hope she does not make a long air trip to tell us to avoid making one...
Oh Dilip, you are really dating yourself with such silly comments.
Trying to shame individuals into watching their own individual carbon footprints is really childish. Nobody talks like that anymore. If they do, they are idiots.
We all know that real systematic change on a global scale is required. Whether or not I recycle or drive an electric car isn't going to make any difference, if BP, Chevron, Exxon, etc don't change their ways.
