General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
I don't recall your indignation at the Charlottesville 'radical' that drove into a crowd, killing a young woman. Why is that? Now a squirrel is hitting the outrage news cycle and this is piquing you?. Can a squirrel be murdered?
Acting erratically on a subway shouldn't be a death sentence. He's charged with negligent homicide, which it was.
Wearing branded political wear a while voting in person is not legal. What's the confusion?
A jury of his peers will decide if New York will continue to descend into the dystopian Mad Max world for which it is destined by all appearances. Voters will also come to a decision today.
Tell me Rob, do you recall anything I said in 2017? Were you somehow present for my conversations?
I don't recall your indignation at all the women and girls and men and boys murdered and raped because of the Biden/Harris open border policy.
It does not seem useful to engage with people suffering with Trump derangement syndrome.
The squirrel and raccoon murdered by the New York hit squad that descended upon a couple of citizens of that state is relevant because of the pattern that it represents of not defending law abiding citizens and targeting citizens with lawfare and absurd policies. It is even slightly possible that Peanut will impact the election. We'll see tonight or maybe next week when vote counting is shut down long enough to manufacture the ballots needed to overcome the Trump lead at the end of election.
Simply taking a subway should not be a death sentence or result in a horrific attack either and in too many instances due to the policies of Kamala Harris, that has been the outcome. Unfortunately the mentally ill man that died in this incident may or may not have been about to initiate such an outcome.
The person attacked in Bath was at a grocery store, not at a voting booth. If you label half the country as fascists then it is okay to attack them and assassinate their candidates and them.
Personally, because I believe in Earth as a place meant for evil and suffering, I think Trump gets back in the White House.
I just watched the counting of ballots on Dixville Notch, NH. There were a total of 6 resident voters there and once they had all cast their ballots, legally they could close the voting and count the ballots. The result: 3 for Trump, 3 for Harris.
Perhaps a harbringer of the overall results because the residents were 4 registered Republicans and 2 undeclared. That means at least 1 registered Republican voted for Harris ... 1 out of 4. If that happens nationwide, Trump loses. We may all have to give a big thanks to Liz Cheney.
If rhe 2 undeclared voted for Trump, then 3 of the 4 registered Republicans voted for Harris.
People sometimes register for the opposite party if they want to influence the primaries and install a weaker candidate. Based on Dilip's statistics the Trump vote is up 50% from 2016 and has gone from 0% to 50% relative to 2020. We are talking New Hampshire here which is a traditionally blue state.
Vlad you speak of 'murdering' squirrels, but are ok with someone murdering a human being on a subway, because he MIGHT be about to do something. Subdue, don't kill. Why are you so outraged by a squirrel, but not a human being ended?
No I don't know what you said in 2017? What was it? Did you actually state that it was deplorable, heinous, barbaric? If so, display the evidence. I'm not the one making the grandiose declarations, I'm just mentioning your hypocrisy at one-siding all things. The left isn't all bad, the right isn't all bad. But there has been a great devolvement of public discourse into tribal thinking that my side is not only always correct, but that also means a need to debase those that aren't in agreement.
You only mention that someone was attacked for wearing MAGA gear. Only when you were challenged were some of the details given. One random attack is now a reason to blame all democrats. Again, can I find a story about right-wing extremists attacking others? Heather Heyer was actually killed because she thought differently than her assailant.
From ABC news (I know, I know, MSM bad)
"After a Latino gas station attendant in Gainesville, Florida, was suddenly punched in the head by a white man, the victim could be heard on surveillance camera recounting the attacker’s own words: “He said, ‘This is for Trump.'" Charges were filed but the victim stopped pursuing them.
When police questioned a Washington state man about his threats to kill a local Syrian-born man, the suspect told police he wanted the victim to "get out of my country," adding, "That’s why I like Trump."
Reviewing police reports and court records, ABC News found that in at least 12 cases perpetrators hailed Trump in the midst or immediate aftermath of physically assaulting innocent victims. In another 18 cases, perpetrators cheered or defended Trump while taunting or threatening others. And in another 10 cases, Trump and his rhetoric were cited in court to explain a defendant's violent or threatening behavior."
1 day to go. My prediction remains unchanged from August 10. Harris wins with 319.
Everyone should be reminded of the Red Mirage / Blue Shift.
Due to voting patterns and vote counting procedures, Republican leaning rural areas get counted first, causing a false impression of a Trump lead.
But then Democrat leaning urban areas get counted later, causing the Blue Shift.
This is all well known in advance, and happened in 2020. It will happen again tomorrow.

So don't believe Trump claims if he takes an early lead in the counting. You need to count all the votes before declaring a winner.
Bob G. I am so sorry that you prediction was just too rosy. You meant well. You predicted what you really wanted to happen.
I was tempted along those same lines. I want just what you want, I believe. But I had to acknowledge what I know to be real.
Earth is meant to be a place of suffering. It can NEVER be a place of bliss and happiness.
This is why Trump had to win and furthermore why the right had to gain control of the Senate and possibly the House, to add to their control of the Supreme Court. The scene is now set for the onset of total world suffering like we have never seen before.
My advice, as I know you must be shell-shocked:
buy gold and precious metals. Try and survive. If you cannot do this, prepare your affairs for whatever you think is best.
My advice to all humanists in the world;
- give up all spending of a frivolous nature. Stop buying anything that isn't necessary for your survival.
- spread that message to all those who think as you do
- stop believing in the power of a vote. Start believing in the power of your spending. If you EN MASSE don't buy the frivolous non-essential things, the world economic system collapses and we get the change we are striving for.
- the belief in a single vote as an agent of change is wrong and has always been wrong. The reason is that people will only vote for what benefits them personally. Example: Latino voters who are now 3rd- or 4th-generation US citizens turned toward Trump in decisive numbers because ... because they no longer see Democrats as their helpers in getting integrated into US society. Instead, they now -- established into America -- see Trump the same way as most white Americans: as the person who will most benefit THEIR WALLETS AND FINANCES.
PEOPLE ARE SELFISH ABOVE ALL ELSE.
THIS IS EARTH. THE WORLD WHERE WE MUST FIGHT TO SURVIVE AND THE ONLY APPARENTLY SURE THING IS WHAT WE CAN BUY.
STOP ALL FRIVOLOUS SPENDING. CAUSE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE. YOUR DOLLAR IS MORE POWERFUL THAN YOUR VOTE.
edit: I don't seriously think anyone will listen to that message. Earth will go on being a place of suffering as it is meant to be.
edit 2: I watched the night before the election Harris' event in Philadelphia with Lady Gaga and Will I Am and other guests. Everything centered around everyone exercising their VOTE. And it turns out 24 hours later that a vote is nothing .... those votes were nothing. No election ever turned on a single vote.
but a DOLLAR ... a dollar spent or not spent has FAR MORE effect than any single vote. You spend some dollars on some entertainment ... you support the entertainment industry, not exactly encouraging change in world affairs. You take those dollar and buy shares in a solar or wind power project ... you make a statement about where you want the world to go.
SPEND YOUR DOLLARS WHERE YOU WANT THE WORLD TO GO.
ANYTHNG EXTRA ABOVE THAT AND YOUR LIVING EXPENSES, BUY GOLD AND PRECIOUS METALS BECAUSE YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN PAPER MONEY aka FIAT CURRENCY aka TOILET PAPER.

The REAL News (TRN) Projection at 11:30 PM EST, Tues., Nov. 5, 2024:
The Barbarians are about to breach the gates.
All must make for Helms Deep.
The cold winds of the Wicked Witch will now blow hard and for some time.
We fear that legally and incrementally, Fascism will be implemented.
The glass ceiling remains in place.
Republicans will gain control of the Senate.
Republicans have had control of the House of Representatives - some chance still for the Democratic Party, but too close right now to call.
Hunker down world; keep hope; this too shall pass!

Hey Bob,
Seems like you are finally ashamed of those favorite slogans of yours: VOTE! DEMOCRACY!
If you really believed in them, you would be hailing how the MAJORITY has responded to lawfare, and has called out the stupidity of the myriad of 'laws' that politicians have enacted...
I dislike Trump a lot. Listening to that criminal Fauci and the rest of the snakes was stupid. His handling of Covid was awful. However, the Left was, and are, even worse.
Fortunately, Trump surrounded himself with a far, far better supporting cast this time.
I look forward to Trudeau and company suffering a similar fate at the hands of the electorate next year.
"Tom is a well known racist, and like most of them he won't admit it, possibly even to himself." - Ed Seedhouse, October 4, 2020.
Yah, his response is a little over the top.
"Earth is meant to be a place of suffering. It can NEVER be a place of bliss and happiness."
No, no, let's try for as much bliss and happiness as we can.
But before we throw in the towel, don't we need to first:
Demand recounts, cry election interference, launch 60+ lawsuits, storm the capital, try some fake electors, and a perfect phone call.
Oh sorry, that's the other guys playbook.
But seriously count every last vote, and then do a full recount. Why not!!
Assuming the result doesn't change, I guess I got it wrong. Like I said, I didn't subject myself to a steady diet of rigth wing MAGA speech, so what do I know.
We'll see what happens.....
Have a nice day everyone.
The electorate is centre right and tends to be more sensible than the crazies who control the Democratic party.
There will be no packing the Supreme Court. No end of the filibuster. There will be no statehood for DC. No statehood for Puerto Rico which rejected the idea the last time it was on the ballot for them. There will be no Green New Deal other than the real one of clean air and clean water. No reparations. No EV mandates. There will be more drilling. This whole idea of seeding the swing states with new illegal immigrants who would be granted amnesty under Democrat rule has been an epic fail. Those voters are gravitating in the other direction which is entirely predictable based on their values.
This was a repudiation of lawfare, the mainstream media, Hollywood and cynical politicians on both sides.
If this world was about suffering, the Democrats would have won as their insane agenda would have resulted in the same kind of suffering which has happened every time their agenda has been applied.
“The only thing I can come up with is that people do feel embarrassed. Most of what he preaches, most of us have taught our children to try to not be that way on the playground. So there’s a certain amount of reluctance to admit I’m going to vote for somebody whose conduct I tell my children is wrong.”
What a great way to put it. Americans are voting against their own morals and ethics.
I predict that any battleground state that polls show in the week preceding the election as being within the margin of error, even it it is in favor of Harris, will be won by Trump.
and the pollsters will slink away shaking their heads again .....
Well, I believe I'm the only one here who correctly predicted the results .... Arizona and Nevada haven't been called yet but are going Trump. I predicted above that all 7 battleground states go to Trump. Mind you, outside of this forum I am sure that many MAGAtards predicted that result ... maybe I am the only left-leaning person who predicted it?
and LOL I am already being accused of being too pessimistic!!! by the guy who predicted 319 electoral votes for Kamala!!! LOL some people just learn nothing .....
and I have the entirety of human history backing me when I say that Earth is meant to be a place of evil and suffering .... so go back to putting your heads in the sand. It doesn't matter, the suffering goes on and will be inreasing in the next few years more than even I the pessimist care to predict.

True enough, a Dem win would also bring its own suffering.
And if we are still around 4 years from now and the Dems get back in again, that too will bring its own suffering.
The world IS about suffering, those who have had NDEs and got to meet entities who incarnated on other planets and these entities told them that those souls who incarnate on Earth are given the HIGHEST level of respect on the other side, because Earth is the worst planet to incarnate on. It takes unbelievable courage to come here.
With Donald Trump's 2024 presidential victory, all future American political fiction is now superfluous.
We can now clearly see that it was a catastrophic misjudgment by American President Joe Biden, who should have declared a year ago that he would not run again for president in 2024. Doing so would have allowed for a full Democratic primary season among many contenders. Then, ultimately, a much longer campaign period for the eventual nominee, who may or may not have been Vice-President Kamala Harris. She ran a solid campaign in what amounted to about 14 weeks, compared to Trump's campaign of essentially two years. I believe Harris erred significantly in not selecting as her running mate the popular Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro; had she done so, she would likely have won Pennsylvania. Biden's serious health issues had to be apparent to many who were close to him, a year ago, including himself. He will be judged harshly by history for his blunder.
The world situation of the moment, already very turbulent, has just become much less safe and predictable, for at least the next four years.
I am so happy to be a Canadian. Now, Trump has been talking (during the campaign) about coming after Canada's fresh water.
