Anish Giri exhibited all the patience of an old sly fox as he took his time cracking the center. White's 43.Rb3 looked innocent but the hardest tactic to see is if I go there what is my opponent going to do to me? Giris white squared bishop is a monster and Bc2! is the answer. You would need to calculate 44.Rbe3 Bd1 45.Re4 Bxe2 guarding the rook on c4. The rest was Anish having fun finding the required breakthrough pawn moves.Comment

Who would have thought Van Foreests position had any problems at move 30? - But he failed to find the accurate 30.Rc8 and his position collapsed.Comment

In the Challengers there were two exciting Sicilians and a Hans Niemann flawless performance. Also Yilmaz kept missing tactics and eventually lost.Comment

The Gukesh Abdusattarov encounter was extremely exciting with plenty of sharp play including a scintillating queen sacrifice and three minors for a queen but Black had enough counterplay to hold a draw.Comment

Vidit Ding also had its moments but the position simplified to a draw.Comment

Pragga Maghsoodloo was a very sharp Sicilian and tactics seemed to flow endlessly in the middlegame. Superficially it looked like Black was up three pawns but White had more than adequate counterplay. In the finishing pyrotechnics the position was balanced on a knife's edge of razor sharp tactics.Comment

Rd 2 Firoujza Maghsoodloo - what a game! Firoujza sacked two pawns in the opening for continued attack. Maghsoodloo sacked his queen for defensive purposes. The balance is queen vs rook, knight and pawn but Firoujza has the iinitiative.Comment
