General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
About the only thing a voter can do is keep changing government until one comes along which gets it right.
Or one could actually get involved with a party and try to change it to be more like what one wants it to be. But that would require effort, I suppose, and we want good government to be handed to us for free.

We pay taxes for that. If you think political hacks are anything more than a convenience, usually unpaid, for some party for a short time in their history then I leave you with the thought. Even many politicians eventually look in the mirror, see the grey and the lines, wonder why they bothered and get out.
I've never joined a political party and I never will. NO politician can count of my vote or support. If a politicial party has done enough to be re-elected I vote for them. That's how I decide.
I leave you with another great piece on the climate change boondoggle. You won't want to be missing this.
Reasonable people know that "the left" is no more monolithic than "the right". So picking on one allegedly "left wing" web site and generalizing to everyone else who disagrees with you is rather laughable to them, I imagine.
You're the one who posted that piece. I asked you how you proposed to devalue our currency and you posted that in the response.
Sorry, given your past performance I will only look at Fox news links if you personally and specifically ask me to. And if you do specifically ask me I will do the research and give you my results. I assume that anything by Fox is false unless proven otherwise, but am willing to take a look at it if you personally ask me to, as a favour to you.
However, if you wished to, you could take a look at this link.

So they say. In any case here's another one. See. Anyone can play this game.
Nothing in this changes the facts about global warming. The measurements for 2009 are now in and it was the second warmest year on record, globally. The decade 1999-2009 was the warmest decade on record.
You already did the research. That priceless site you linked on monetary policy says it all. Are you a member?
I think you need to take a bit of time to calm down and stop hyperventilating. You are starting to ramble and becoming incoherent and difficult to decipher.
I didn't reference any site on monetary policy, I referenced a blog entry in an economics site, the "Progressive Economics Forum", which is about economics in general and run by well qualified people.
Although I suppose anyone associated with a Union must, I suppose, be therefore automatically wrong so far as you are concerned.
I started graduate school at U of Ottawa to study climate change in more detail and formally. Your link to Fox news is really irrelevant, why should the IPCC guy resign.
Go to a university library and get the text on the IPCC 2007 Climate Change Physical Science basis and start reading it (or do it online) like I presently am. The book is almost 1000 pages long. It was written by people; do you really expect that it will be 100% accurate and error free. You have no basis to criticize it, at least read the Summary for Policymakers or the technical summary which is a lot shorter and easier to read than the body.
You post so frequently, don"t you have anything better to do. Start reading and learn something instead of assuming that you know everything about the topic and then you can see things more clearly.
By the way, I also bought two books recently a) Heaven and Earth by Ian Plimer, a well known climate skeptic mining scientist from Australia and b) The Storms of our Grandchildren by James Hansen. These books are two polar extremes on climate change, and should make interesting reading. I do like to get both viewpoints.
Have you read a single book on climate change, or just Fox News articles. Get to the library and people will respect your new knowledge. Never too late to learn, it keeps the brain active.

Nope. I don't have anything better to do than find the truth in climate change and chess positions.
For climate change it appears to be the transfer of wealth from the have nations to the have not nations. Over the next 5 years we should see how politicans who pledge billions to the worship of the climate change mantra will fare.
I've been told FOXNEWS is more popular than CNN and MSNBC combined by a lot. Politicians who ignore the opinions of large sections of the population lose support and votes.

Reality does not change just because a majority are out of touch with it. Nor do majority opinions change the facts.
If global warming is real, it is real whatever popular opinion of it may be, and if it is untrue, it is untrue no matter what the majority believes.
To decide what the truth is we only have the actual evidence to guide us and, like it or not, that evidence currently is that the surface of our globe is indeed warming, that the warming is largely caused by the activities of people, and that if continued it is going to cause many deaths.
If you want to know the truth for yourself you must examine the evidence yourself, and that evidence is not found at Fox news.
Paul is interested in that evidence and is actually examining it with a level of objectivity. Gary thinks it must be false and therefore only looks at evidence that support his beliefs, and ignores any that doesn't. To justify this irrational approach he cites popular opinion!
Currently an immensely expensive propaganda campaign is being waged to hide the facts. But the facts will not go away, and if we ignore them they will bite us, just as, for example, in Louisiana a few years back.
Scientists and engineers saw that disaster coming years in advance and warned about it over and over. Then when the disaster came and killed thousands of people, deaths almost entirely avoidable if the warnings had been heeded, the politicians cried "why didn't you warn us?".
Scientists are warning us again about global warming and it's results. We ignore them at our peril.

Paul is objective about the topic like you're objective about unions.
Remember the old picket line song?
The working class can kiss my ass
I’ve got the foreman’s job at last.
The system I’ll no more resist,
I’m going to be a capitalist.
Now you can raise the standard high,
Beneath its shade to fight and die.
But brother, please don’t count on me—
I’ve up and joined the bourgeoisie.
I'm waiting a few days to decide on more or less cooling this winter. The ultimate climate predictor, Punxsutawney Phil, will be waking up and coming out of his hole to tell us if there will be a regular or shorter winter.
I used to put my faith in Wiarton Willie. However, as luck would have it, I'm not ever certain if I'm spelling Whiarton correctly.
If Fred reads this and once again boos me, (I'm sure he also boos little old ladies and calls them trolls), hopefully he will give the correct spelling for Wireton Willy.
Note to Ed: Some guys really did sing that on our picket line. Sixteen weeks it lasted that time.
