If that article gives Vlad some comfort, all the power to him. To me, the article is deeply flawed and completely utopic. What are those business thumper's at the post smoking, or what kool-aid are they drinking. These high priests of oil are completely delusional. They will do and say anything to keep their multi-billion profits coming in, at the expense of humanity. They forget that with no humans left on the planet they will have no customers to sell their oil to. One can only hope that humanity will one day prevail before it is too late...

That's kind of double edged. There are still more than 3 years until the next Ontario provincial election. Late 2015. Between now and then between the federal and provincial government they will deal with the deficit. We've had them before. Don't you think if the problem is solved or well on their way to being solved the voters will want to stay with the same political party?

In the meantime, the opposition will be opposing the measures the government will use to clear up the deficit. That's why they're called the opposition.

I don't really suppose the government will mind the opposition putting in time until the next election.

This bad budget can be defeated by the opposition. The others could not as the liberals had a majority government.

When you have a chance and reason to defeat legislation with which you don't agree and win an an election as a result you have to grab it. If you don't your time may well pass.

Take Diefenbaker as an example. The people gave him a minority government in 1956. The next year he called a snap election saying the opposition wouldn't allow him to govern and was returned with a massive majority. This ended more than 20 years of liberal rule.

If the provincial liberals can win in view of what's in that budget and the Ornge revelations and all the other things you mentioned they are clearly the people's choice. If the political parties want to govern they should go after it and now looks like the time.

A bad budget is exactly the thing on which to fight an election. Trudeau knew that when he voted to defeat the Clark minority government.

How is this bad budget any different than the many bad budgets that they have already delivered? Ontarians pretty much deserve to get screwed over because they re-elected this government after everything that it has done to date. I have no faith that if this budget were defeated and an election were called that the result would be any different than the last one.

The Ornge revelations are nothing new. There have been many similar scandals (eHealth comes to mind) where somehow the Liberal government has managed to dodge the fallout. The whole green energy program is much more costly and damaging to the interests of Ontarians than the ambulance scandal. If you don't like insiders making money from back room deals and ripping off taxpayers then you need to find a party that wouldn't do the same.

Once again green energy policies are a bust and an expensive boondoggle that taxpayers, hydro ratepayers and even the green energy companies cannot afford. HTH.

I guess it depends how it's done. The company with around 398 MW of wind at Wolfe Island and Shelbourne is a successful Canadian utility company.

Regarding putting over 2 million into kids chess, I doubt you'll ever see it. Compared to other children's activities, such as hockey, gymnastics, dressage, etc., chess is relatively inexpensive.

The budget is the perfect opportunity for the opposition to defeat the government. However, I suspect the NDP will support the budget even though their supporters will be hurt by the policies. If both parties oppose the budget I suspect enough members won't show up to vote and ensure the budget passes.

$2.7 million to create twenty slightly above minimum wage jobs that are gone after less than two years. If they threw the same amount into teaching chess in the schools,... we'd have thousands of kids playing chess in every city and exactly the same amount of green energy and we could have many more permanent jobs.

Green energy jobs is a scam to reward government friends with money for which they don't seem to be accountable. Note that the quantity and quality of jobs actually delivered is far less than that which was promised by a factor of more than ten.

There's the gas fired electric power plant in Mississauga which was simply halted. Wonder how much that will cost. Talk of relocating it but no date or location. Probably we'll pay for this as "stranded debt" but it will still likely be hundreds of millions. Just spread out over lots of bills and months.

You're probably right about no Ontario election in the near future, although, going another few years and possibly watching their leader blow another lead can't be appealing. Right now I think the Cons are leading in the polls. Come election time in a few years they might not be. McGuinty is a better campaigner than Hudak. He presents a more positive image and message on TV and that's what it's all about.

In this riding the federal conservative beat the incumbent liberal. The provincial election did not have an incumbent in this riding. The Liberals won by a lot. The federal and provincial riding boundaries are the same. Which brings up the question of why the vote changed in such a short time from conservative to liberal if it wasn't image and message.

The provincial and federal parties and their supporters are not the same though there may be a great deal of overlap between the two. Hudak has a habit of putting his foot in his mouth. Harper has managed to reign in this tendency as a result of bitter experience. For a lot of people it may come down to a question of the devil they know versus the devil they don't know. In both cases the incumbant governments managed to hang on to power. There is also a tendency to want a counterbalance between the provincial and federal parties.

I don't like the provincial liberal energy policies and I don't like their tendency to tax and spend but beyond that I don't really see that much difference in their policies and what the conservatives would have done had they won. Both the liberals and conservatives would have been constrained by the situation that they found themselves in after the election.

We always get the government that we deserve, and may God have mercy on our souls. I think the Liberals in Toronto and the Conservatives in Ottawa are both relatively positive for chess. Billions will be wasted on green energy but at least there will be a few crumbs off the table for chess.
