I don't think many homeowners care. Many are locked into long term contracts at fixed rates for natural gas and electricity. Those who don't have a natural gas contract in this area are paying a lower price than many with contracts pay.

With hydro, if the price of oil stays high or goes higher, solar will likely pick back up a bit.

With natural gas, as far as I know, Union Gas and Enbridge here in Ontario are required to pass through the actual cost of the natural gas without a mark up. They make the money on the transmission. If homeowners arrange their own gas supplier they pay the contracted price PLUS the transmission charge. The latest charge for natural gas from the utility is approx. 11.8 cents a cu. meter.

Another topic is if drilling for dry gas in North America is viable in this low price environment. I don't think so.

Outdoor ice hockey mostly ended when they built indoor arenas. Now the leagues and other events are held indoors. It's a big money sport.

When was the last time you saw outdoor curling with decent rocks?

I notice the U.S. still has their tornadoes. Those things will get a person chasing his rooftop solar panels down the road. :)

Winter is normally beat by the third week in Feb. in these parts. The average daytime temp starts to get higher.

The upside of the warmer temperatures is less fuel is burned to heat homes.

You haven't given an opinion on the robocall issue. Here in the provincai election the robocalls were merciless, although they had nothing to do with tying to fool me about where to vote. Only to promote the candidate. It was all hours of the day. I don't recall getting any during the federal election. I like to nap and the automated calls woke me up.

Problems voting is kind of built in. They have used the same spot for at least 30 years. It has 3 polls. It wasn't bad when I was younger but now the long walk during the day is a problem. The school parking lot is filled up during the day so it's a long walk. In the evening after dinner I like to watch TV and read. I understand the turnout there is not very high. There's a community center with lots of parking closer than the school so it's not like they can't do better for the voters. They simply don't want to do better.

I wonder if Gary still thinks that this is a "normal" March. How about Vlad? Is anyone wondering what this means for the summer temperatures? Or food production?

Even climate researchers admit that anyone using the weather factors this unscientific way is not quite right.

In a post a few above this we discussed the temperature in March 2000. Drawing long term conclusions based on short term weather is not an exact science.

True, but surely the ever-adaptable human race will work hard to find better, safer, and more efficient ways to use this energy source. :)

The ever-adaptable human race can adapt when the rate of the changes is within limits; not so clear when the rates are too abrupt. To think otherwise is likely vanity...

I think that they already have found "better, safer, and more efficient ways" but the idea of nuclear power summons up a great deal of opposition that many politicians would prefer to avoid dealing with.

The Americans are still using a Gaseous diffusion (1940's technology) for making the SWU's for their light water reactors. Most others have started using Centrifuge technology. The plant using it also buys SWU's from Russia and will for some time. Even after the Megatons to Megawatts program finishes. They refuel about half the nuclear reactors in the U.S. and about a quarter of the ones in the world from what I know. And that includes reactors in Japan.
