General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
" New Nanos poll finds the Liberals have moved into the lead with 38% support, Tories are at 35%, NDP is sitting at 24% "

( P.S. Sorry if this is a duplicate post - could find my original one on the long thread tree )
Ontarians must like to suffer. I can tell you one thing, if the Liberals are re-elected most of you will be paying higher taxes next year. I for one will see my taxes go way down but that is not a good thing.
Ontario residents can only take so much of the Conservatives; since Harper and Ford are in they cannot bear the thought of Hudak as well. They also wonder about the extremes in climate around the world and want a solid industry like renewables for job creation and transitioning into future sustainability.
Besides, Nic Nano's is my neighbour, my kids play with his kids; he lives a few doors down from me...

We're a pawn down in the opening but there is plenty of opportunity for attacks around that exposed king (Dalton). Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

We'll have to see if this turns into a trend or if it's a "one off". There is a chance to voters don't want to take a chance on a change in these economic times.
Labelling an opponent the "tax man" and not saying how things would change may not cut it. Kind of like saying something like: Thanks for the HST tax money and the health tax. When we get into power we'll spend it well. :)
Spending more money on home care for seniors, as an example, is appealing. When I was getting chemo, which lasted about 10 months, Home Care came in to see me. The first 10 days after a treatment they gave me shots. Weekly they gave me a shot of something else. Always wanted a temperature and checked blood pressure. And when I was reallly sick after a treatment home care came in and gave me injections. One day they came 3 times. They sent someone weekends, statutory holidays and whenever anything was scheduled. They were simply great.
I don't know what the Conservatives want to do with these kind of programs, but I know what the Liberals are doing.

Unfortunately, even the world's most authoritative atlas fell for the GW deception.

Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
It would be so nice if people would be required to pass a minimal IQ test and perhaps a test of mathematical literacy which would show that they have mastered arithmetic to the level that was required of a grade 8 student in Ontario back in the early 1970s before they were allowed to write columns supporting green energy policies. It would really help to eliminate much of the idiocy that gets printed in defense of the Green Energy Plan which is basically indefensible.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it will create a few hundred temporary low paying jobs in Windsor if we promise to send billions of dollars to some snake oil salesmen but the fact is they really play fast and loose with the facts and most of my cohorts from St. Alphonsus grade eight math class would have been able to catch the fallacies.
For example, and Paul had an epic fail when I asked him this once before, but the claim that green energy will not affect electricity prices under the current program can only be true if these new technologies do not produce any electricity. If we go with seven percent of total generating capacity being green and ignore the fact that much of that seven percent will be surplus power that we might have to pay someone to take off our hands and the feed in tariff provides for a wholesale rate of 80 cents per kilowatt hour versus the 3 cents per kilowatt hour of competing technologies then how much will our wholesale rates have to go up to pay for these McGuinty flights of fancy?
Wholesale electricity rates will have to go up to 2.8 times what they are now to pay for it. How many industries are viable if we almost triple electricity rates? Not many I would wager. So much for green energy jobs strategy.
If we drop that rate to 40 cents per kilowatt hour then we only have to increase the wholesale price to 1.86 times what we now pay. I don't think doubling electricity prices in the province is going to endear us to traditional manufacturing or the consuming public for that matter.
Paul is going to accuse me of lying but I invite those who are at least mathematically capable to the level of a grade eight student from the seventies to do the math for themselves.

Humanity is sliding downward bigtime as climate change advances...
You call it climate change. I call it seasons. It used to be Global Warming but that seems to have sizzled out.
Are you having a good election season?
In this riding, Pickering - Scarborough East, the race is supposed to be very close. No incumbent but last won by the Liberals. The PC's beat out the Libs in the last federal election.
In my opinion, I consider the liberal to be the better candidate. Strictly a personal opinion. Problem is we are being indoctrinated to vote the party and cast off the shackles of a candidate who must tow the party line.
The polls might not reflect the actual vote as we are being lulled into thinking there will be a minority government outcome. What people like me, who probably won't bother putting out the effort to get to the polls, have to realize is minority government isn't on the ballot.
I'm completely turned off by all the phone calls I've been getting. Most are simply robot messages which I hate. I wouldn't be surprised if the turnout is low.
