General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
You've still got to distinguish your good candidates ( like Obama ) from your really bad candidates ( like George W. Bush ). Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to do stuff, I can see one motive might be to prevent Archambault from winning. Another might be, it might look good on your resume.
The CFC has all sorts of similar dilemma's right now. Is running the Canadian Closed not a "thankless" task at times ? The CFC has always been a highly charged political envoronment with a lot of secrecy, and these aspects are by choice. Not everyone supports these choices. One of the costs of such an approach is you lose most of the young people, this is not the world they live in ( a much more dynamic social media approach ).
Duncan: I think if you look you will see that Bob G and myself have been very active on the the Chess Forums this year. Whatever secrets you think might exist were swept away last July .......
And how is that Good Candidate working out for the American economy?
Oops! I forgot, It's still Bush's fault!!
Looks like a decently good job to me. Only so much you can ask for when you take over from an incompetant like Bush. Recession ended, US companies making record profits ... who would have predicted that March 2009 ?

Good Job??
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Obama will go down as one of the worst Presidents the USA ever had. IMHO! Of course, I am a very humble person.
He surrounds himself with Socialists, Communists, Progressives who want to give everything to everyone, he attacks business with regulation, he is so thin skinned, it is almost laughable...
Oops! There my Conservative side goes popping off.
Well.. That should elicit a "few" responses anyway!

It is possible that the last year has seen some positive changes, I'm not really following closely. But if so, then I can't see Bob retiring as President after one year, followed by ( for example ) Serge, as being confidance boosting for the CFC.

Possibly, but he should still finish comfortably ahead of such all-time losers as George "Mission Accomplished" Bush, Andrew "How do these impeachment trials work?" Johnson, Franklin "What do you mean there might be a civil war?" Pierce, and Warren "I'm not big enough for this job" Harding.

You might be correct, but Barack "Spend $1,000,000,000,000 and I guarantee unemployment won't go above 8%" Obama might match some of that. I did say "one of..." And, yes, I know those weren't his exact words!
Quite frankly the George W. Bush days will will be looked upon as the good old days in the future. To blame the present economy on W is frankly dumb. The precipitating events (financial crisis) which sealed McCain's fate in the election were set in motion by the Democrats for the most part. Saturday Night Live did a surprisingly accurate skit on the subject that featured caricatures of W., Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and others. The G.W. Bush administration tried to fix the problems before everything came to a head at least on the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac front but were thwarted in their attempts by the Dems who were very large recipients of campaign financing from the two entities.
I am not sure if Obama will lose or not but he won't be able to run against Bush again in 2012. If the Republicans nominate someone credible they will win in a cakewalk. At the moment, I'm not sure that they will. The U.S. president has a veto over what the legislators do. That is a significant power.
You must be joking. GW Bush is lucky that he avoided jail for violating the Geneva Convention. All the present day leaders that do not deal with climate change will be viewed as idiotic in the near future.
What Republican is credible in your view. Sarah Palin or Donald Trump? You really think a Bush will run in 2012; which one?
Why am I not surprised to see no evaluation on CMA ChessTalk of the two declared candidates for the CFC Presidency.
Bob

Even if the U.S. had ratified all of the treaties that make up the Geneva Conventions, I doubt that W would ever be prosecuted. Another case of might makes right.
P.S. I guess the trick for people like you, Paul, is to follow your moral compass while staying out of harm's way. The Ws of this world, and their legions of psychopaths and sycophants, will have no compunction about 'waterboarding' you, or worse.
