Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links

12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Why is the: lowest FIDE-rated player; only non-IM/GM; and least experienced player (Roman Sapozhnikov) getting the third most votes... This is beyond my understanding.
Cause, he has a potential.
The mandate for the Selection committee is to "select three players ... taking into account the players' recent results, potential for improvement and such other factors as they consider relevant."
Though only one players gets on the "initial" team, others two are on a reserve. It might happen that all three players would get on the team if K.S. will decline again, and M.B. will relax on the couch retired.

2. Next 3 invitations by rating selection list
3. 5th Board invitation - top on Selection Committee list
4. 2 replacements - 2nd and 3rd on the Selection Committee list.
5. if having to go deeper, then according to rating on the Team Selection Rating list.

On the members' CFC Chess Chat Forum, CFC Treasurer, and PEI CFC Governor, Fred McKim, has confirmed that this invitation process is correct. Invitations have now been sent, and CFC is awaiting replies, so it knows if it needs to use any of the replacement nominees.
I understand the choice of Jackie Peng, since she is a very talented player. However, why weren't these players considered?:
Agbabishvili Lali 2036 2041 2039 18 Yes 14
Du Jasmine 1885 2124 2005 14 Yes 16
Roy Myriam 1957 2049 2003 ≥20 Yes 17
Looking at her FIDE rating, Lali definitely deserved a spot.... However, this might not change anything anyway, since they are only in the reserve list. Also, I must say that it is a great accomplishment from a young player from Quebec, like Myriam, to have a good FIDE rating like this, considering how few tournaments there are. She should be able to be part of the team very soon...
Anyway, good luck to all the players!

Don't worry Bindi, I know that you made a big improvement since the last Olympiad, so keep it up and I am pretty sure that your chances of making the team will be much higher next time around!
I would like to congratulate Albertans Eric Hansen and Edward Porper for making the team. As far as I know this is the first time that Albertan made the team since Walter Hollowach from Edmonton went to Argentina in 1939!

If you look at the first post in the thread it shows the order of the players by average rating. It looks like they went by the qualified players from the rating list, which is fair.
You seem to have missed by an average of about 12 rating points, so a total of say 25 rating points. You should try to get your ratings higher, particularly your FIDE rating. It might mean picking your spots over what events to play.

Bindi. The committee does not rank those who aren't selected. I would think all of you from the poll in this thread received serious consideration.
The fact that Edward had the highest selection rating would be a consideration, but there are other considerations as explained in the CFC Handbook (on the website).
My team would be from the active players who are likely to accept. I'm excluding players who are retired, aren't active, or won't likely accept. This is in board order.
It's match points so I did a bit of stacking on the bottom end.
Board order is decided by the Team Captain, who is selected by the players.
I'm not master strength, but I think I would put Porper on Board two, not because I feel he is 2nd best, but because I think his performance rating is higher against higher rated opposition (you can check out results on the FIDE website) than against lower rated opposition. I think after that, Gerzhoy followed by Noritsyn and Hansen (or vice-versa) would yield the best results.

This is fantasy guessing so here's how I saw it.
Board 2 has to play board 1 when they rest the top board. Gerzhoy and Porper should be able to handle the lower boards and the one above them when they have to move up for rested players. Noritsyn should do just fine on playing board 4 when one of the others is rested. We need 2 1/2 points to win a match and it looks like we'll need to pile up wins on boards 3 and 4.
I've noticed a lot of teams are good on board 1 and 2 but thin lower down (the powerhouse teams excepted). We are strong on boards 3 to 5 and decent on boards 1 and 2.
I hope the player don't find this offensive. It's not meant to be.
