General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Its possible Twitter is buggy. Been on/off today. I think you did not delete posts. I am wrong. I apologize for accusing you of deleting posts on internet (crime against humanity) and only accuse you of posting insane conspriacy theory about Bill Gates working with CCP to commit global eugenics plan (normal post to make on internet )
i do not accept your apologies. You have yet to identify yourself and you are clearly here to harass. You continue to misattribute statements to me "Bill Gates working with CCP to commit global eugenics plan"".
I hope Dark Knight deletes your profile soon. .

This will go down in history as one of the greatest crimes against humanity history has ever known. Courtesy of the WHO aka Word Homicide Organization puppet of the Chinese Communist Party and its main funder and propagandist chief eugenicist Bill Gates.
Yes I agree with that statement however, I have not stated COVID was a "global eugenics plan". Bill Gates and his Father before him funded Planned parenthood and other population control causes. The founder Margaret Sanger of planned parenthood was a well known eugenicist , hence I agree with the description of "chief eugenicist Bill Gates".

Are you prepared to give Trump credit for saving millions of lives ... when he shut down air travel from China?
No, because that's obviously not true. There are currently 1.1 million COVID deaths WORLDWIDE. How could restricting travel from China possibly have saved millions of lives in the United States? Canada didn't restrict travel until March 16 and currently has nearly 3 times fewer deaths per capita compared to the United States.
I will say that he made the right move in doing so, but I have no idea what that has to do with anything. Do you think that because he did one thing right, nothing else matters? Do you deny that he could be saving lives by promoting masks instead of talking about the problems with them and saying that he's just "okay" with them?

Yep. He saved lives! How many depends on how many infected people would have spread the virus coming in from China. Trump is, and has been, promoting face covering since early in the year.
Shame that the Dems refuse to enforce their own ... blawblawblaw ... farce mask 'mandate'.
Perhaps the Bidens could make some money from doing so???
You know Lucas ... a little kickback funneled through crackhead Hunter via China or the Ukraine?

No, Trump isn't promoting masks. I've said multiple times now that tonight, instead of promoting masks, he said that he's just "okay" with them, and then immediately began talking about all the problems with them. Here's an exchange from tonight:
GUTHRIE: But I don't get it, because you have so much power and influence as president.
TRUMP: I'm all for it.
GUTHRIE: And you could go to your… You could require it-
TRUMP: By the way-
GUTHRIE: … at your rallies, and you could say-
TRUMP: I never said, 'Don't wear them.'
GUTHRIE: 'Everyone put on a mask right now.' And the University of Washington says, you would save lives.
TRUMP: Savannah, University of Washington. And then, you have other places, say different things. You have a lot of… Hey. Dr. Fauci said, 'Don't wear a mask,' right?
GUTHRIE: At first, but then everybody agreed.
TRUMP: Oh, I don't know. Then he changed his mind. But then, you have a report coming out two days ago, that 85% of the people wearing masks catch it.
When asked why he doesn't require masks at his rallies, his excuse is that he doesn't say not to wear them, and then tries to act like there's disagreement among experts on wearing masks. He brings up this 85% number multiple times:
"Just the other day they came out with a statement that 85% of the people that wear masks catch it so ... that’s what I heard and that’s what I saw.”
"But then you see CDC comes out with a statement that 85% of the people wearing masks catch it."
"Did you see CDC? That 85% of the people wearing a mask catch it, OK?"
Yes, with potentially millions of people watching, he said that 85% of people wearing masks catch COVID. This is also obviously just wrong and not at all what the study says. Are you ACTUALLY going to try to claim that this is supporting masks?
Peter both articles do not discuss the merit of the paper itself. Instead they attack the messenger. That should actually tell you alot.
This author is a well respected scientist with many peer reviewed papers https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q...=1&oi=scholart you will see that she has published many papers in journals such as Lancet and Nature with hundreds of citations on many of her papers.
I hope that answers your question as to how to assess the credibility of a scientist.
Sid, here is a link to a document published by Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security which deconstructs the paper by Li-Meng Yan et al:
Perhaps Li-Meng Yan is a well-respected scientist, as you believe, but the people at Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security have turned thumbs down on the paper you're so keen on. Unless you have an equally credible source that supports the paper by Yan et al, I think it has to be rejected as being of questionable value (at best).

Peter, that is an excellent paper. Dr Li-Meng Yan published a second paper last week that addresses the issues brought up in John Hopkins critique of her first paper.
Holland and Belgium have now gone ahead of Canada - over 200,000 cases each.

One must always check the leaning of a news media; very few are truly "objective and not leaning to the left or right"......News outlets now spin the world events as they see them from their perspective....this does not mean they are presenting false news.......but it may be that they are cherry-picking to create an impression of what the world is like out there. The other side of the story, these days is minimally presented, or not at all.

Why don't you stick to commenting on the actual content of the story? The "source" does not invalidate the content. That is a truly pathetic comment. Just maybe if we started treating COVID19 patients early this nightmare would be over.
