General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Australia’s first hydrogen liquefaction facility and ship loading terminal, the world’s first liquid hydrogen carrier ship, and a hydrogen unloading and storage facility in Kobe, Japan, have been developed so far.
But there’s one catch: the project uses brown coal (also called “lignite”), a high-emitting energy source, to produce the hydrogen. In fact, almost all of the hydrogen used today is made from fossil fuels.
Tax credits for carbon capture projects will just encourage more carbon emissions.
What do ChessTalkers think about the carbon tax credit concept, that is so popular with world governments?
20 years ago, I would have supported such market based tax credit schemes to move us away from fossil fuels, but those days are gone. We now require more direct and urgent action. In a similar vein, the net zero 2050 proposal at recent COP, is now revealed as another too slow program designed really for delay and ripe for abuse. The governments need to actually take action and not just appear to be taking action.
The carbon tax is a scam. What good will it do even if it causes all of us to reduce our carbon use by 10% while the population of the planet increases by 20%? Too many people here, this is the problem, not our individual use of carbon.

I call blah, blah, blah.
How much can individual actions change our carbon usage? I'm staying at home, wearing sweaters. I no longer use carbon pencils or make carbon copies of documents. I have tried eating pizza with carbon crust and drinking a black smoothie with carbon.
Here is your role model for becoming a "sink trap":
Until it is chopped down for bio-fuels which is one of the worst of the green energy scams. On this, as much as it pains me to say, I agree with Michael Moore.
“This has to be the biggest year yet for climate protest,” a supporter of the Extinction Rebellion movement in the UK told the New Statesman recently. “If it doesn’t happen now then we’ll all be heading to the hills and prepping [for the worst].”
So will it? Nearly 5 per cent of Americans also say they would willingly participate in civil disobedience to demand action on global warming, according to research published last week. That may sound like a small number but it is higher than the 3.5 per cent of a population that Erica Chenoweth, a Harvard political scientist, argues is needed if nonviolent protest is to achieve political change.
Do ChessTalkers see any evidence of this phenomenon? Do you think it may yet happen? If so, when and why?
"As pandemic restrictions are eased activists in a host of countries are looking ahead to the Global Climate Strikes planned for March."
We'll see if that is the beginning of the miracle Brad is looking for.
Should be about the same time we are all taking off our masks, so we can focus on climate change.
Too little too late? Maybe, maybe not. But I am looking forward to protesting. Any clever slogans for my sign, anyone?
Canadian "Climate Activists" (Read: originator Bob G) are calling for 2 major "Climate Actions" in the first half of 2022!
The Dates
The 2022 Climate Action # 1: Friday, April 22 @ 12:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) // 16:00 Universal Time Coordinated (UTC) - 2022 World Earth Day!
The 2022 Climate Action # 2: Sunday, June 5 @ 12:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)// 16:00 Universal Time Coordinated (UTC) - 2022 World Environment Day!
Other 2022 Climate Actions are being scheduled for the 2nd half of 2022, as we speak.
The Action (Canadian Proposals for Discussion)
1. All paid working persons across the globe will breach their employment contracts by striking from 9:00 AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 5:00 PM EDT (21:00 UTC), and accepting not being paid. Workers will put away their computers, drop their shovels, stop their serving of the public, etc. They will all join in the global, peaceful noon demonstrations.
2. All persons who are working without pay, and those not working, are encouraged to join the demonstrations.
3. All businesses are asked to close their businesses on these days, and owners are encouraged to join the demonstrations.
4. All national governments are called upon to close all non-essential services to the public, and to fund and support these global demonstrations.
The Demand
1. That all national governments across the globe cease their lip-service, ineffective climate change policies.
2. That all national governments make it priority # 1 to cooperate and re-marshal all resources into immediate and effective positive climate change action.
