General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
The meeting, hosted by Egypt, will raise pressure on rich nations to help developing countries decarbonize and deal with the catastrophic impacts of global warming
..................Average per day.......Av. per day..........Average per day
......................This week.............Last Week ........ for 2022 (to date)
This past week's participation rate shows a significant increase over last week's activity. Obviously part of the driver of this is the number of responses per day.....if there are more responses, more people will come out to view them.
It seems the climate change topic is still very much of interest. Many responses have given ongoing information on negative climate change, and some of the steps possible to REVERSE this process we've started. It seems that certainly some tools to help us avoid climate change suicide do exist.
But will we use them, will we use them to the extent necessary, and will we use them fast enough?
Climate activists on Wednesday blocked roads leading to Germany’s three biggest airports, gluing themselves to the ground before police arrived.
Members of the group Uprising of the Last Generation said they wanted to disrupt cargo and passenger traffic at the airports in Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin.
The group has demanded that the government take measures to end food waste. It argues that throwing away vast amounts of usable food contributes to hunger and climate change.
The tipping point is less than eight years away and what are humans doing about it? Invading Ukraine. And blathering about "severe sanctions"!? We need a miracle or we go off. Our stupidity is astronomical.
I agree Brad........my reading of the earlier papers puts the fatal "Tipping Point" of Nature at around Jan. 1, 2031 ..........this is LESS than only 9 years!!!!!!!!!!! (Based on the projected trajectory, given actions taken/not taken over the last few years)
What are we, as a species, doing?? We are on the path of climate change "suicide"!!!
I fear the time is now so short to save ourselves, that we will NOT take the radical steps needed in time.
We know what needs to be done........we simply appear to have no political will in the world governments to bite the bullet.
I believe that the only solution is a World Strike by the electors across nations, and may also involve electing new governments that are promising radical solutions that will work!
What do other CT'ers see as necessary to save ourselves?

If it hasn't been mentioned yet:
"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."
- usually attributed to George Carlin
"We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office." - Aesop
"Only the dead have seen the end of war." - Plato
"If once a man indulges himself in murder, very soon he comes to think little of robbing; and from robbing he comes next to drinking and Sabbath-breaking, and from that to incivility and procrastination." - Thomas De Quincey
I believe that the only solution is a World Strike by the electors across nations...!
Anyone who tried to promote this idea and became powerful enough that there was a threat of actually pulling it off, Greta for example, would immediately be assassinated and the movement quashed.
Bob, we are desperate and therefore anything is worth a try. I remain completely pessimistic about the chances of humans saving themselves, but I remain completely optimistic about the advent of something miraculous that will save us from ourselves. Being a good Hegelian at heart, it seems to me that existence is in the final analysis Rational and that it will not self-destruct but evolve to a higher plane at exactly the moment we reach the "tipping point", as the Bible says, "lest no flesh be saved". But we will continue to suffer more and more in the meantime. Growing pains of God as S/he/it actualizes, or attains to self-awareness. But I fully agree with your entire attitude, we have to act as if no miracle is forthcoming and do that all we can to try to promote the saving of ourselves. Psychopaths like Vladimir Putin make this task next to impossible, he is another Hitler, he thinks like Hitler did, acts like Hitler did, and even shows the anti-Semitism of Hitler. Unfortunately the rest of the world is a collection of Neville Chamberlain's. The entire world should declare war on Russia and take them off. If we all go down in the process, so what? Give me liberty or give me death. Humans need to both wake up and grow some balls. We should not stand idly by and act as if the "threat of sanctions" means anything to a monster like Putin. We may as well bring on Armageddon, it is coming anyway.
"New research by the non-profit group Power Shift Africa, published Saturday, estimates Ethiopia will spend 5.6% of its gross domestic product, or $6 billion, each year until 2030 to counter the impact of floods, climate-driven diseases, hailstorms and wildfires.
The Horn of Africa, where Ethiopia is situated, is suffering its most severe drought in 40 years, with 1.5 million livestock dying, the Associated Press cited a United Nations official as saying."
What is the obligation of the developed nations, who have created the climate change suicide trajectory, towards those suffering most from climate change?

Bob, it's a war in a desert where soldiers (Ethiopia, Tigray, Eritera) steal all AID. Bob Geldof and the world tried saving it in 1984 and failed. They will all die. Many are risking their lives fleeing to Europe.

UN Report - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (a body of experts convened by the United Nations)
Climate Change Is Harming the Planet Faster Than We Can Adapt, U.N. Warns
Countries aren’t doing nearly enough to protect against the disasters to come as the planet keeps heating up.
The dangers of climate change are mounting so rapidly that they could soon overwhelm the ability of both NATURE (Emphasis added) and humanity to adapt unless greenhouse gas emissions are quickly reduced.
We simply are not making any "radical" corrective measures that are immediate!!
What "radical" changes must be introduced to not pass the "Tipping Point" - the point beyond which Nature will never again be able to regain its historical balance.
As I have noted, radical population reduction is the only solution in keeping with human nature, which nature is to grow and exploit. Putin will see to it.
