  • Weekly Stats: CT Anthropogenic Negative Climate Change Thread

    Week # 10 (22/3/2 – 22/3/8)

    ....................................................2022 Average....................................................................... 2022 Average

    .............................Last Week's.....Views/Day...........................................Last Week's............Views/Day.

    Views/Day...........Views/Day.......(To Date)........Responses/Day......Responses/Day........ (To Date)

    ....28..........................56 ...................79...........................1.....................................3 .............................5

Note: There is a flurry of activity when a thread starts, and then it tapers off and levels. This generally tends to keep the 2022 Average higher than a later weekly stable current rate for a long while.

    Analysis

The core issue, IMHO, IS how to get society to perceive the issue as URGENT, as it is. What action is needed from climate activists to “AWAKEN” the public that this issue cannot just continuously be kicked down the road?

The solution to the above problem is very hard to see, I think. Climate activists around the world are trying to come up with some action plan that will be effective, both with the world public, and world governments.

Can we come up with one of two viable suggestions that we could put out there to other concerned client activists?

    • May I suggest Jon Stewart as the next US President.

          "Emergency"?

With mounting human costs from wars in Yemen, Ukraine, Syria, Somalia and Ethiopia (among many others), it might seem like an odd time to talk about “A Good War.” That’s the title of author and policy analyst Seth Klein’s debut book, which looks at what Canada can learn from its experience in WWII when it comes to tackling the climate crisis.

                  • Radically changing conditions like this are frightening. If we solve the problem of Putin, a big IF, then we might get to the pandemic, and if we solve that problem, a big IF, then we may turn our attention to climate change, an unlikely MAY... we are already going over the edge of Niagara Falls in a barrel. We need/await a miracle, which may or may not come/happen. Human governance misses all of this. Our governance is suicidal. We have divided up into East versus West, and now we are having a fight. Our attention will never be turned to what matters immediately. Nature is on her own. S/he/it reacts.

Brad, the miracle you seek may be Ukraine driving the Russians out. It will be at an horrendous cost in lives, but depending on who you are listening to, the probability of this varies greatly. Maybe that miracle sparks more miracles. I don't know, just trying to stay optimistic I guess.

Why not? It makes sense that if we have miraculous events they will flow out of current events. Putin losing is a more likely "miracle" that an apparition descending from the sky. We need the pandemic to fizzle out, this would be almost miraculous. Then we have climate change... maybe we do need an apparition to descend from the sky. In the final analysis, I am agnostic. But it is clear that the patterns of History cannot continue as they are, we are on a suicidal course. So we go off, or are saved. To suggest that mankind will wake up in time to change everything and correct all of the advanced problems is not realistic in my view. The freight train derails.

                        • Regulation, through Disclosure, Tackles Climate Change

                          The Americas - USA

On Monday [March 21], the SEC announced that it would add another layer to this set of essential disclosures, requiring companies to also release information about their climate risks. Starting next fiscal year, the country’s largest public companies—such as Walmart, Apple, Berkshire Hathaway, and ExxonMobil—must publish data about their greenhouse-gas pollution, their exposure to various challenges such as sea-level rise, and any plans they have to minimize their exposure to these risks. Some companies must also publish information about their “downstream” emissions, that is, the carbon pollution from customers using their products. (These are called “Scope 3” emissions in corporate-climate jargon.)

The rule is a big step, and it signals the growing importance of climate concerns in the business world.

There is still active, stable participation in this thread now, after 12 weeks. I have tried to post new material regularly on various aspects of climate change as I cam across them, and there has been interest in viewing them so far.

The core issue, IMHO, IS how to get society to perceive the issue as URGENT, as it is. What action is needed from climate activists to “AWAKEN” the public that this issue cannot just continuously be kicked down the road? Nature's Tipping point is estimated to be, on current trajectory, only 9 years away (Around Jan. 1, 2031). Time is fast running out.

Can we come up with at least one or two viable suggestions of things that might wake up the public, that we could then put out there to other concerned client activists?

                            • Humans will never understand the urgency of their problems until it is far too late. Not only with respect to the climate, but with respect to people like Putin. Hitler was appeased and allowed to expand until it was far too late to avoid disaster. The world stood by and watched Putin prepare to invade and did nothing, and even now does little. We have the same patterns of History all over again. If Humans do not have the guts or the bravery to stand up to themselves and for themselves as humans, then their cowardice will be/is being their demise.

                              • To assist Europe, to wean their dependency off Russian Oil and Gas

Canada will increase production of Oil/Gas

Can Canada increase fossil fuel production and cut greenhouse gas emissions at the same time?

There is hope that Canada can help wean Europe off Russian oil while promoting cleaner, lower-emissions energy, Heather Scoffield writes.

In the view of CT'ers. does this work re climate change?
