General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
1. Jack as PM, as leader of party with second most seats.
2. Formal contractual coalition with the third place Liberals, like the prior Ontario Liberal-NDP coalition.
3. Bloq as outside fourth party supporter on case by case basis. Given a couple of cabinet positions in return for their support ( ultimate cooption of the separatists ! ).

What do you think?
Bob
I would like to see the Bloq outlawed and/or tried for treason.
At the very least, they should not be permitted party status.
The prior Ontario coaliton between Liberals and NDP was different. Bob Rae had only been leader for a few years and was in no danger of losing his leadership. He could deliver the support for a coalition.
Looking at the current situation, A third place finish for Ignattief has to lead to a leadership convention. Unless there's a reason the Liberals would like to fight another election with him as leader. A new liberal leader is unlikely to want to prop up Layton.
In my estimation, if Harper gets a minority the NDP as official opposition is better for him than the Liberals.
Anyhow, we don't know the seat split yet. We could get an absolute shock. There's a lot of discontent in the world these days.
I get a laugh out of the NDP cap and trade they will quickly institute. Tax marginal companies to the hilt and watch them pack up and leave, or simply go out of business.
The forestry industry still hasn't recovered but I guess old "lumber" Jack will swing an axe to show how it's done.

Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Hi Bob,
The Rae government was a disaster from day one. They were not ready for prime time and it showed. They ramped up spending mostly on things that did not contribute positively to Ontario and then it was a disaster which was somewhat mitigated by the subsequent Harris revolution. The only government which was worse than the Rae government is the current McGuinty government but only because of his environmental policies that are bankrupting the province.
We get the government that we deserve. I am still hoping for a blue miracle. I suspect that like the Rob Ford election the pollsters are not getting the vote counts right. We'll know in about four days.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
I really like the idea of the cute, blonde, unilingual anglophone student NDP sacrificial lamb who is off in Las Vegas beating the Bloc veteran without appearing at a single campaign event. This election should have been held on April 1st. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. I guess that's one way to create employment for students. Elect them to parliament.

We elected a high school student as a school trustee one term a few years ago. There were 2 to be elected. I only voted for one. It's called "plunking" and helps to elect the person a voter really wants.
We are being told to vote for the leader of our choice by voting for the representative in our riding.
The conservatives seem to be hovering near that magical 40% mark. What happens if they really manage to shatter it as seems more likely as the days go by.
I think my short funk, doubting the sanity of the Canadian electorate was from watching the depressing movie "The Road" which took me a couple of days to make it through. The movie envisions a post nuclear holocast society with cannibalism and paranoid suspicion as the central motifs.

Can lightning strike twice? Ontario provincial election on October 6, 2011
Megan O'Toole, National Post · Mar. 18, 2011 | Last Updated: Mar. 18, 2011 7:02 PM ET
The Progressive Conservatives continue to hold a solid lead over the Liberals in Ontario, a new Nanos poll shows, with just over six months to go until the October election.
The random telephone survey of 504 electors placed Tim Hudak’s Tories at 44% among decided voters, nine points ahead of Dalton McGuinty’s Liberals — a lead that held when respondents were asked who would make the best premier.
In another blow to the McGuinty regime, the pair were in a statistical dead heat when respondents were asked who they trusted most to manage the health-care and education files, traditionally safe Liberal ground.

Ya I loved that movie. Cannibalism and paranoid suspicion are my bread and circuses. ;-)
