General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
I like a challenge. The climatologists (white) versus the evil oil empire and their cabal of climate change deniers (black). White will triumph...just a matter of time...
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Evil oil empire? Care to estimate what percentage of the things you own didn't come in to your possession thanks to oil? If oil is so evil why does everyone (including you) use so much of it?

Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
I just love this article...sick and tired of political stupidity and corporate (oil) control of politicians and brainwashing of the public and attacks on science, expecially climatologists...
From the link: "I laughed when I read Monday about voters in a U.S. city named Colorado Springs, which cut sales taxes and rejected a property tax hike. When the wildfires came, they had a straitened ability to fight them. The city, home of the notorious hard-right Focus on the Family and the Taxpayer Bill of Rights and highly libertarian in voting patterns, as Reuters reports, now looks like your campsite firepit the morning after you roasted all your wieners. They’re begging for federal money to rebuild."
As I have been saying on this thread for years (admit that I told you so), dumb-ass humans are trashing the planet; climate change has completely destabilized our weather. Now starting the consequences stage, and it ain't pretty. Wait until the fall when food prices double due to massive crop failure in the U.S.
I have a solution, but humanity does not deserve it at the moment.
Look on the bright side. It is great that this destabilization is happening now. As bad as the consequences will be, they would be a lot worse if they happened in mid- to late-century with a global population of 9 or 10 billion (at least we are only at 7)...
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Probably your worries will be over. They found the Higgs Boson.
I think linking the current weather to climate change is somewhat of a stretch. Feeding the population was always going to be a challenge. However, the fertilizers will help to increase the yield per acre. I know you're worried about crops in the area you spotlight but weather and crops have always been a problem. That's why I don't buy stocks tied to crops. Don't want to have to worry about crops. Even sugar. It's pretty much a duopoly in Canada. Still, I don't want to worry about the sugar beet crop. I kind of miss that one. Sugar is one sweet business.
I don't vote libertarian so don't much care what happens. The voters can straighten that out next time if they don't like the results.
Regarding oil, if you think a pipeline won't be built to the ocean you might simply be dreaming. I think that's coming so we can get world prices for our oil and natural gas. I know the Americans don't want to see a pipeline because it will leave less for them when the time comes they need it. However, in my view, our government will not continue to lose revenue because our product is discounted.
One of my auto signatures called the U.S. election, in my opinion. However, I think once the election is over one of the first things Obama will do is approve the new pipeline.
Gary, how much will this disaster cost if 50% of the U.S. crop (not just corn) is wiped out this year?
I can only shake my head and tell you guys that I told you so.
I have no idea. I was reading they planted a large corn crop this year. Probably they might have to stop adding food to fuel for us to burn in our automobiles.
I've also heard the crop in Western Canada is doing well. We should have extra to sell to the U.S., but I don't suppose it will be inexpensive.
I guess the price of wheat, corn, livestock feed, etc., Up she goes!
Why are you only worried about how much the "disaster will cost"? Are we talking money here or a lack of ability to feed the population?
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Greek heat wave closes Acropolis early, temperature hits 42 C.
Sorry, but I think climate change is changing our weather forever. Records for all types of " weather " are being broken year after year - extremes are becoming the norm. Hard not to search for a common cause - and I don't think it is the devil!

If you want to find the cause take a look in the sky at that thing called the sun, you know, the heat source for the solar system. The Martians and Venusians are enjoying a heatwave as well though their politicians are trying to claim its our emissions of greenhouse gases that is causing it which is just as silly as as what is coming out of the mouths of those with a vested interest in selling us carbon credits. On Earth we continue to come out of the last ice age.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Hi Vlad:
I"m no scientist, so I'm coming at this as a partially informed layman.
If the sun isn't getting any hotter, and the world axis and spin have not changed, then why should the weather/climate be becoming hotter?
Seems to me the answer has to lie in what is between us and the sun - the atmosphere. As I understand it that is what climate change scientists claim humans are altering with pollution, to our species detriment.
As to the cause of the coming and going to Ice Age/Furnace Eras, I'll have to have that one explained to me.
