General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
If the sea ice in the Arctic is following a log fit instead of an exponential fit then it could vanish this summer...call me crazy but I am basically convinced that the planet is abruptly entering a new climate state...average global temperatures could be 25 degrees Celsius within less than a decade as compared to the present value of almost 15 degrees Celsius...this would take the earth into a Cretaceous type climate state...with this type of warming global food supplies will be devastated and all hell will break loose...most of the planet will be very warm and very wet...but dry areas will be drier?...

Do you know what that will do to the value of ocean front properties. Wow!!! They won't be what they used to be.
Water expands when it warms so I suppose sea level would rise.
My boss once threatened to fire me for exciting the molecules. It was a cold day and I should have known better than to excite the molecules. It ended up costing several thousand dollars to repair. Darn molecules!!!
I still remember the coal furnace when I was a kid. The coal man used to come around and fill up the bin. I can still recall being put in the coal bin for several hours because I threw stones at the milk mans horse. It must have worked because I didn't throw stones at his horse after that.
After that it was oil heat. Then came natural gas heat. Natural gas cost less.
I can remember working on the changeover to natural gas by large volume users in this area. I used to work on a couple a day doing my part of the change over. Some days I'd work on three not very often.
The current pricing on natural gas is out of sync with reality.
A barrel of oil has roughly 6 million BTU's and sells for around $100. a barrel.
A MCF of natural gas has 1 million BTU's and sells for around $2.60 WTIC.
At the conversion rate of 6 MCF for 1 barrel of oil you have around $16.00 equivalent of heating value. Natural gas is a huge deal in North America.
The reason doesn't really matter. What should be done, in my opinion, is the price of natural gas should be tied to oil as a percentage of the cost. There's no reason natural gas should not be selling for 7 or 8 dollars a MCF. If nothing else it might stop foreign companies with a long time frame from taking over our resource companies at low prices in the current environment.
While it might sound radical, pipeline companies don't suffer when volumes get lower due to less use. They simply raise the price of transporting the smaller volumes.
Of course there's a lot of hedging in natural gas. Even many homeowners are hedged. They lock into 2 to 5 year contracts at a fixed rate. That helps to keep the price down for the product.
It seems the global warming crowd is growing increasingly desperate to discredit the tiny band of global warming skeptics who have brought their movement to a grinding halt. Forgery and mail fraud and violation of U.S. federal law seem to go unnoticed in the mainstream press in much the way that Solyndra and the many more horror stories in the green energy agenda are swept under the rug. I wonder if they will mention it when Gleick gets nailed with civil and criminal penalties.
Interesting that big oil seems to be funding the global warming movement/religion.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Heartland has been ripped apart and totally debunked as a climate change denial front for big oil with the uncovering of their funding sources and details. This is climategate in reverse, call it denialgate...
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Paul, no wonder the eco-freaks are engaged in a broad retreat on all fronts. You just posted the faked data as proof of the alleged misdeeds of your critics. It worked in the Stalinist Soviet Union but it doesn`t fly any more. Since you have no compunction about posting fake data when it comes to your critics there is little doubt that you are willing to post fake data to prove global warming, and that is why you fail....
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
I call BS on Vlad. You and your buddy Huck Farper are nuts...
Stop crying about Heartland being torn apart and revealed for the Huck's they are; you were quite happy when emails from Climate Research Unit (CRU) in England were hacked into and illegally acquired. No problem to you about these being stolen, and now you cry about Gleick. At least fake consistency...
