General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
I don't think I deserve all these individual attacks, and I'm starting to see that it's less of giving me pointers, and more of trying to humiliate me in public.
I deserve nor praise, nor attacks.
No one is attacking you, or humiliating you in public. Seems to us you are paranoid, that someone is trying to go after you. Might be chesstalk atmosphere getting to you. :D
Someone had to bring up the topic, and I was in no way, waiting for applause. I was also, in no way, wanting attention.
It is obvious to us, that it is exactly what you looking for. If you didn’t want, you would send Hal a private message and told him privately. This is what most of people would of done, if they didn’t require any attention. The way you just keep bringing same points up over and over again, is just making it worse for yourself, and there is no one at blame for this, but yourself.
I don't know how many times that I have to say this, but I was passing on a MESSAGE
The real problem is you keep saying it over and over again. We get it, everyone heard you the first time. Please stop with this already and please stick to actually doing something.

Not another virus we hope. Maybe this is CFC hidden ajenda to get into personal computers of members and non-members alike, that was approved at AGM meeting :D
I'm sorry I misunderstood you. I now understand your intentions, and what you were trying to get through to me. You are right, it can be perceived that calling certain countries "3rd world countries" can be discriminating, and I recognize that now. From now on, I'll try and find words that have less hurt behind them.
Thank you for all the pointers, I need to take in as much information as I can. It's my job to make mistakes, I just need to make sure i don't make the SAME mistakes, and I'll be good to go.
As for improving my chess, I agree with you. I need to focus on chess, but I would also like to contribute in some way, if only a little one. That's why I passed on the information, and now Hal has the information, and hopefully he can pull a few strings so that FIDE may be able to help. Thank you for the constructive criticism Mike :)
Frankly I am quite fed up with this thread that has been thoroughly polluted with Mr Egorov's obsession with putting down Zack Djukic. It is not about being right or wrong, it is about trying to intimidate a youngster that obviously means absolutely no harm, quite the contrary.
I am also disgusted with the couple of idiots that have jumped on the bandwagon to help harass a teenager for his "outrageous" idea to help out some kids in Ghana. This is a prime example of bullying and it should not be tolerated, whether on this board or anywhere.
But if I have to agree with something that Mr Egorov
says, it has to be the fact that the CFC makes many mistakes. One of them is belatedly but now quickly coming up for attention. Choosing Mr Egorov as one of the canadian team coaches at the last WYCC was clearly a major blunder. How is it possible to expose kids to someone with such an abusive and obsessive behaviour, notwithstanding his deplorable and careless use of the english language ? Hopefully parents and people responsible are taking notes.
I fully agree with you Mr. Jean. I am personally indifferent to this whole "Developing Chess in 3rd World Countries" thread.
I am however very disturbed at the amount of harassment that has been directed to Mr. Zachary. It is quite unacceptable, and a form of cyber-bullying. May I add that I do praise Mr. Aman for his use of humor and satire to raise some good points in this discussion.
To all the other posters who have excessively been posting pictures and trying to put down Mr. Zachary; how about I post a picture of how I portray you individuals.
