Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Both US and Brazil have 40,000+ new cases in one day, half of the world's new cases.
Texas and Floridas numbers have surged dramatically and bars are being closed down.
The odds in favor of Trump preventing the November 2020 Presidential election from even happening have now gone up dramatically as Covid resurges. The economic fallout hasn't even BEGUN to happen. When it does, we're all going to need an umbrella like Wile E. Coyote in the roadrunner cartoons.
As you might recall, the semi-famous person who predicted the 2020 pandemic back in 2008 also predicted that the 2020 U.S. election would not be held. That is why I'm mentioning the odds on that happening now going up. In Texas, the state supreme court ruled AGAINST allowing all state residents to vote by mail. So if the pandemic is so bad by then that no one can vote in person, in Texas and in other states, Trump could do some kind of executive action to prevent the election from even happening, and the courts may allow it.
Some of it is fascinating and its all great entertainment (as much as I can stand anyways) I find I have to take total breaks from US news for days at a time for my own mental health.
I would also think it would be a great mood affector for some due to the huge amount of schadenfreude.
However the continent of South America may be the one most affected (and infected). Of its twelve countries 7 are on the verge of out of control, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Columbia, Bolivia, and Ecuador.
One positive. Here in Kitchener they are busy building tiny homes for the homeless (direct result of Covid). Back when i was at Kitchener City Hall for over two years I was one of the lobbyists lobbying to get Tiny Homes into the community. It was frustrating with endless meetings and no headway. The developers didnt want them. Now finally more than 5 years later we have them.

Ya, it's insane how urban centers don't jump all over these small square foot residential structures. So much good can come of it! And a major plus that comes with this amount of square footage is that they don't necessarily need to be of stud wall construction to be built efficiently. So for the creative/enlightened architect/builder this type of built environment is a wonderful opportunity!
Long ago Tokyo took this and ran with it, so did the Hague, so did many other smart cities. And it's no longer just a challenge for cities with limited land mass nor the 'human' side of things to simply provide a built environment / shelter. It's all about opportunity.
I'd have to go way back into my stack of Architectural Review to find that one single structure which triggered my inspiration but I remember it was built in Japan. Very narrow structure, in fact so narrow that it was structured with a corrugated C ... and the living areas were suspended via cables, so too were the sheets of glass windows. No load bearing stud wall, no posts nor beams.
Opportunity is limited only by the lack of vision & the lack of will power.

For the first time today, the U.S. has topped 50,000 new cases in a single day. On this same day, Trump said, "We did a lot of things right. I think we did it ALL right. We did a great job. We're credited with doing a great job!" Really makes you think.

Are you thinking of St.Louis where the white couple (both lawyers) brandished their firearms (recklessly but thankfully without incident) at the protest group in their "gated" neighbourhood?
