General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Peter, We are often naive about the true political shade of a country...check out my post about the USA and China...
And I fully agree with you on the critical importance of compassion...
And talking of Scandinavian countries, I love Sweden, where the government wields so little power that many of its ministers have to use public transport to get to work
When i visited a cousin in a modern community in Sweden I noticed that there were no parking spots or parking lots, more room for houses.
My brother studied urban planning there and found them very logical.. For example, all apartments buildings reserved the first floor for seniors and wheelchair bound tenants. But their wonderful ideas don't work here where short-term profits come first.
Dilip : any system of man except "the stifling tyranny of Marxism"!
Democratic Marxism (DM) is a different kind of socialism...
Democratic Marxism is in direct line with Marx's thinking on democracy ...
My Proposition: Immediate replacement of governments around the globe by national Democratic Marxist parties is the ONLY way man will get legal "radical" changes from governments that will avoid climate change suicide.
Finally someone who is honest about climate change.
Marx let his own family starve. Most communist regimes maintain the fiction of being democratic.
The ironic part is that when you succeed in getting your great socialist revolution many of the people pushing for this revolution will be the first and most spectacular victims. Most think that they will get to be the people in charge but there can only be one person in charge and he will kill anyone who is a threat. See the leader of North Korea and the life expectancy of any relative not trusted by the great leader. Look back on the history of the Soviet Union and other communist countries who hunted down dissidents and threats around the world. Trotzky was once a friend of Stalin but that didn't save him from the ice pick half a world away.
If you want great human misery put your trust in Marxism or Gaia or any of the other nonsense posted on this thread. Most of the people posting here have no knowledge of how the world works.
If you want to know what is going on with climate change you should follow the money.

First, nobody here or anywhere else has any idea how the world works. Second, agreed completely.
Finally someone who is honest about climate change.
. . .
If you want to know what is going on with climate change you should follow the money.
Lots of money to be made, and big profits from government contracts always attracts fraudsters and kickback corruption.
But also have to follow the money of who is spending millions to prevent regulations on their profitable, but polluting, industries. Like the Koch brothers, Southern Company, and Exxon Mobil.
They're many links on google, mostly 10 years old when they were fighting Obama..
As a Global society, we must increase spending to at least $4.13 trillion every year by 2030.2019-20 averaged a meager $632 nillion per year.
100 companies have been responsible for 71% of the entire world's industrial gas emissions. Anti-climate politicians get nearly twice the corporate donations as tose who vote in favor of climate action. Fossil fuel companies invest millions to lobby against climate legislation.
Suggesting that the only way to get change is a world strike.....Hmmmm.....
Will this happen??

Nope. If the wokesters strike no one will notice and it might be a very good thing if they went on permanent strike.
In related news climate change wokester Arnold Swarzenegger was involved in a collision with a Prius while driving a big gas guzzling Yukon. I guess the Humvees were in the shop. The Prius was making a U turn which caused the accident on Sunset Boulevard. A Porsche was damaged in the ensuing mayhem.
Arnold should stick to making movies and do some better movies as the only ones he has made recently that were bearable to watch were part of the Terminator franchise.

Wayne has retired and the pay and benefits are good. The wokesters are looking for the right man (right wing, that is). Apply now, Vlad!

Study Intro:
"A recent study has revealed that the natural atmospheric greenhouse effect is around 90 K or about 2.7 times stronger than assumed for the past 40 years. A thermal enhancement of such a magnitude cannot be explained with the observed amount of outgoing infrared long-wave radiation absorbed by the atmosphere (i.e.≈158 W m-2), thus requiring a re-examination of the underlying Greenhouse theory."
Suppose we accept the "recent study". The second sentence admits that the rise in temperature under our now impervious atmospheric canopy (I argue, that man created), is unexplained by light/heat reflection off Earth and back into the atmosphere.
So the two researchers go looking for a complicated, and not generally accepted, explanation for this discrepancy.
Ockham's Razor posits that when there are a number of possible explanations, one should always start with the simplest.
Man started unbalancing the atmosphere with the start of the industrial revolution, and we have been going full tilt ever since, despite year after year warnings that we were putting ourselves on a path of climate suicide.
So what is the simplest explanation of the continuing enhancement of the greenhouse effect?
The simple answer: We are consistently and continuously increasing the impermeability of the atmospheric canopy (The problem). So day by day, the thermal enhancement is being caused by less and less of the outgoing infrared long-wave radiation being able to penetrate the canopy and escape. Day by day we are trapping more and more of the reflected heat within our atmosphere, causing the measured thermal enhancement/rise.
The Solution: A radical cut-back in the human-created greenhouse gases.
