General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
But it looks to me like "Mini-Trump" Polievre is coming here soon!
What a North American two-some this will be, with Mexico being a bit left of centre.
Look forward to those corporate tax breaks, reduction of support for the vulnerable in our society, and the slashing of government and regulations that reign in the worst excesses of wild west business/Capitalism.
We will be hunkering down, just like the almost half of Americans who now have the barbarians in charge.
Bob A (Democratic Marxist)
Or maybe none of that will happen and the economic boom will help Canadians and Americans pay for their social programs.
Supposed Democratic Marxists murdered members of my family and tortured my polio crippled uncle in Yugoslavia to confess his imaginary crimes.
We will be hunkering down, just like the almost half of Americans who now have the barbarians in charge.
Bob A (Democratic Marxist)
Bob,
Your use of the word barbarians is no different from Kamala's use of fascist or Biden's use of garbage, both rejected by the process you 'worship', namely VOTE, MAJORITY, DEMOCRACY.
And you do not have to fear the passage of new laws by the Republican trio of presidency, senate and the house; what the new government will do is the opposite, repeal a lot of stupid so called regulations and 'government control', which are characterized by inefficiency, waste and harm to the hard and smart-working citizens!
And you yourself and all your local Marxist friends will actually benefit in the Trump-Poilievre harmony, as North America will become less Marxist, and thus a better place to live...

1) Nowadays "literally" means "figuratively" in a hyperbolic way. We know this from the Rachel Maddow defense vs OAN. (Search for the word "literally" to see the relevant part).
2) Tracking down the dozens of TV examples would be tedious. Here's some links to online articles from allegedly reputable sources. I think they are all garbage.
MSDNC, CNN, and even The View made such claims as did numerous Kamala surrogates. Kamala said that he was a fascist and I think Biden may have as well. Kamala did say in 2019 that Joe Biden is a racist but there is more evidence for that claim.
They actually said "Trump is literally Hitler," or they compared Trump to Hitler? I suspect Tom meant the latter but, in any event, these sorts of comparisons aren't usually helpful to anyone. Sinking to lows like Hitler comparisons and name-calling just means, imo, that you're having difficulty making your case on the basis of policy.
The Majority of Americans have spoken clearly - they want the New Golden Age that Trump represents.
They feel they started to get it in Trump's 1st presidency, and then fell behind under Biden when he put together a new majority.
They want Trump to now continue to implement his brave new world.......and I believe he will for them, and for his oligarch friends, and for his authoritarian leader friends around the globe.
He is very clear on his right-wing agenda......his voters cannot claim later that he said one thing, and did another.
And his electors are going to be shocked at what they asked for, and will get!

, making it a clean sweep of all swing states! Massive red wave success! It is beyond a landslide, as Republicans won: – Presidency – Popular vote – Senate majority – House majority – State governor majority – State legislature majority The few states that didn’t go red are mostly ones without voter ID requirements. Must be a coincidence This is an extremely clear mandate from the people for significant change!
....
In post #128 of this thread, I predicted exactly this result.... "I predict that any battleground state that polls show in the week preceding the election as being within the margin of error, even it it is in favor of Harris, will be won by Trump.
and the pollsters will slink away shaking their heads again ..."
I am sure a lot of Trump supporters may have predicted this also, but I have to wonder if I was the only left-of-center person anywhere to predict this? It is not the result I wished for, and people generally predict very close to what they wish for.
It's really amazing when you think all 7 states were classified by the polls as "toss up". It's like flipping 7 coins and getting heads every time.
Now the person here who made the worst prediction ... he knows who he is ... is saying despite my perfect prediction of the results that I am "over the top" talking about Earth being a place that we come to for suffering. And another person said if this was a place meant for suffering, Harris would have won, which I corrected, because suffering comes to us no matter who our leaders or what their political leanings are. Suffering is GUARANTEED in all outcomes. It is the multiple combination of outcomes that determines who suffers and when ... eventually we all suffer.
If Trump ushers in a "golden age" .... everyone will still suffer eventually. Although one NDEer did say that some souls choose a life plan that could be described as a "vacation", but even then the person always suffers something at some time.
And by the way, the "golden age" may come about because the price of gold climbs to record amounts and the US has to default on its debts. That is going to happen at some point in the near future, but it may not be until the 2030s.
If you get your news from the TV, all you are getting is propaganda.
Musk did the world a great service by buying X.
When all of the votes are counted, I wonder how many more Biden got in 2020 than Harris did in 2024. Ten million?
Yes. With more scrutiny and fewer ways to cheat, Democrats lost something like ten million votes. With Hitler running and democracy at stake. It makes you wonder.

For anyone, whether in America or other countries, who finds this result shocking, they should reconsider where they get their information. This trend was obvious on X for months, but almost all the legacy mainstream media pushed a completely false reality. They lied to you."
This trend was also painfully obvious in decentralized betting markets where one could actually profit if they were correct in the conjecture that main stream media tells the truth.
The one social media platform that has attempted to follow the First Amendment turned out to be the closest to reality with respect to the election.
I completely agree with Musk, as I have observed the same problem in the COVID-19 pandemic that cost millions of lives by misinforming people and climate change. Main Mainstream media pushes an alternate reality; they lie, not such a radical idea!
