Looks like we have now reached a tipping point in the will of the people. I could see the NDP winning this thing outright now...

In my riding, Paul Dewar usually wins, and in Vlads riding the NDP always wins by a huge margin...

Not true. In my riding Comartin always wins by a wide margin. He is seen as hardworking and smart MP whose popularity transcends party. In the adjacent riding Masse is viewed similarly. I suspect that both those seats are safe NDP seats not so much because of the party but because of the individuals running. The NDP/labour union and Liberal machines got spanked and lost miserably in the municipal elections last year.

I went to school with the Conservative candidate in my riding, Denise Ghanam. She's a smart lady. The demographics are changing locally. My suspicion is that if Comartin were to retire his seat could easily go conservative. Traditionally the area voted Liberal and once boasted three local cabinet ministers in the Trudeau days.

The Ekos poll consistently shows the Conservatives four or five points below other polls taken on the same day even. Don't get too excited Paul.

Here are all the polls. The question is which one will be accurate in light of the election results on May 2nd when the only poll that matters will take place. I will probably vote today or tomorrow in the advance poll just to get it out of the way.

If you click on the regional numbers you will find that they have a very large margin of error. In some regions the total margin of error exceeds the predicted Green vote.

Not really. The Con vote seems to be holding around the same level and the Liberal and NDP vote seems to be interchangeable. Hard to know how they votes will translate to seats.

As for a coalition with the NDP at the head, I can't see it lasting or even happening. First, the Liberals will change leaders if they finish behing the NDP and a new leader won't likely want to be tarred with the brush. Although, I don't know what the big deal is about the Bloc. They had a chance to make a difference when they were the official opposition (that was when the Cons only got 2 seats) and nothing happened. Now you tell me the Bloc will tow a line as part of the government for a couple of years? It's the final stages of political junkie psychosis.

Its going to be very interesting after the election if there is a much diminished Bloc. Any coalition will be much more unstable with three parties watching the polls for an opportune time to bail and trigger an election that might improve their standings. I hope the Conservatives win a majority just to see the howling when they keep their promise to eliminate party subsidies. Look for the Liberals to be in danger of bankruptcy after each election once that happens.

It's hard to imagine the Cons getting a majority.

Likely I won't vote. The Libs won by with around 50% of the vote in this riding last time, maybe it was even more. I like the MP. The conservative doesn't inspire me.

If If start to think the left has a chance of finishing strong I might sell some stocks in Canadian companies. The most recent plant shutdown by one of the companies in which I have some shares came after a long strike when the company lost business. The said they were moving some of what remained out of the country and selling off the rest. I assume the machinery. The union won that strike big time.

I didn't bother with oil and gas stocks this year. After the costs and taxation there isn't much left for shareholders. They have to keep drilling to stay even. What happens is they drill a well. Then the longer the well produces the less you get. The pressure in the well drops. They put it on pump but don't get a lot. If it's a gas well the amount you can get from it is limited by the size of the pipe and the pressure and temp at which the gas flows. To figure it out you use Boyles and Charles Laws as they apply to gases. The business doesn't make sense to me at todays prices. Tar sands seems to be mostly doing OK at these prices.

Agreed. Though if they actually do get only a minority, and then a coalition of the opposition parties displaces the Cons, AND Gilles Duceppe actually becomes Prime Minister (due to the Bloc winding up having the most seats within the coalition), at the least a lot of people could be moving to Alberta.

This election leaves many Canadians with a stark dilemma, whether or not they are alarmed by it.

A possible coalition, in which the Bloc has a grip on the keys to the country, regardless of who is PM.

Or, having a Conservative majority led by someone who is rather a control freak. The Cons may then dramatically reduce the Liberals' chances of winning federal elections in the future (perhaps on occasions when they would better deserve to than now) by altering party financing regulations. Not to mention any hidden Conservative agenda (at least some of which I probably wouldn't mind, however).

As has been normal for many federal elections now, I feel like voting for 'None of the above', but that isn't on the ballot. The closest available choice to that in Canada is to say out loud 'I decline my ballot' and have this registered as a non-vote, but I don't wish to do so in front of neighbours (whoever made the rules this way was IMO deliberately intimidating people into voting for someone or else staying home).

I feel I should vote in the name of democracy, so I'll pick a fringe party (Not GREEN) or an independent instead.

When the NDP governed Ontario under Bob Rae, so much business left the province that Buffalo N.Y. put up a sign thanking him.

When the middle Liberals were Canada's natural government, they got majorities due to the split between Reform and Progressive Conseratives. Now with the TCC/Reform takeover of the PCs, the right wing vote is solified and they are the natural government as the left is split. Trudeau and Mulroney could get majorities with Quebec seats, not now with the Bloc.

Harper has time to play piano with his band. I wonder if he'll let Tony Clement take some time off to play chess.

Maybe they'll set up chess tables in the new Gazebo.

If the NDP keep strengthening in the polls during the week we could see a surprise. People around the world are looking for change and in Canada we're paying very high prices to fill up the gas tank. Lots of people have to cut back on driving.

People have to ask themselves if they are better off now than before the Harper government came into power.

I wouldn't vote NDP but I can see why people would.

I won't be voting. I have to get something done that morning. I was supposed to have it done last Monday but when the doctor saw the rash I have he told me it's shingles and to come back.

Sorry to hear about your shingles; my mom had it a few years back and it was painful for a long time; do exactly what the doc says to get rid of it...

You could always vote in the advanced poll like I did.

I don't think that there is anything you can do other than rest. I don't recall there being any other treatment for it.
